Service bulletins for the 2017 Mazda CX-9

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SA-051-252025-12-05. Service bulletin. STEERING; SUSPENSION; POWER TRAIN; WHEELS. Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) Diagnostic Guidelines Diagnostic Guidelines When diagnosing NVH concerns, it is essential to first classify the issue into one of three primary categories: Noise, Vibration, or Harshness. Many customer complaints may involve overlapping symptoms, such as both noise and vibration, so identifying the dominant characteristic is critical. Once the primary symptom is determined, follow the appropriate diagnostic path. For example, if a concern includes both noise and vibration but is related to vehicle speed, the vibration diagnostic path should be followed. When considering component replacement during the diagnostic process, it is best practice to start with the lowest cost or most accessible part unless diagnostic evidence clearly identifies a more expensive or complex component as the root cause. This approach helps minimize repair costs and avoids unnecessary part replacements. For example, a growling or bearing whine noise may be mistakenly attributed to internal components in the differential, transfer unit, or transmission, when the actual source is a wheel bearing. Misdiagnosis like this can lead to unnecessary repairs, added time and cost. To help prevent this, always follow the guidelines in the repair procedure.
02-003-232023-11-01. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. Some customers may complain of signs of oil on the struts or shock absorbers. In most cases the oil that is present is normal, and a result of the oil that remains on the shaft during the normal sweeping process of the shaft seal. Follow the inspection guidelines below to determine if the condition is a result of the normal sweeping process or a failure of the shaft seal.
02-004-22a2022-12-02.
02-004-222022-06-04.
SA-006-222022-03-04. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING; POWER TRAIN. There have been warranty claims submitted for growling or bearing whine noise in differentials, transfer units and transmissions where the source of the noise was a wheel bearing. This misdiagnosis can lead to multiple repair attempts, warranty debits, and additional inconvenience and/or cost to the customer. To reduce the chance of this occurring, please follow the steps outlined in the repair procedure.
02-005-21-37942021-04-05. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP49), Certain CX-9 vehicles may experience a creaking/squeaking noise from the right rear suspension. The noise may occur while traveling at lower speeds or coming to a stop, or when starting from a stop. The noise can also be duplicated by gently bouncing the right rear suspension (i.e. simulating the movement of a passenger exiting the right rear door). The creaking noise may be caused by stick-slip between the upper spring seat rubber and the coil spring.
02-009-17-33922021-03-08. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; STRUCTURE; SUSPENSION:FRONT:SHOCK ABSORBER. Some vehicles may exhibit a crack on the front shock absorber dust boot (A). This may be caused by dust boot insufficient resistance to cold. The shape and material of the dust boot has been changed to improve the resistance to cold.
00-002-172021-01-25. Service bulletin. ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL:AUTOMATIC (ASC); SUSPENSION; BACK OVER PREVENTION. In support of the 2016-17 Mazda CX-9, Mazda will make available a Special service tool (SST) to address front suspension noise for specific highly humid and wet climate conditions of the lower Gulf States and Hawaii. The SST will be needed to complete repairs detailed in TSB 02-003/17, and is available through Mazda's tool vendor, Snap on Tools
02-002-20-36512020-01-23. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY.
02-001-20-36552020-01-23. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. Some vehicles may exhibit one or more of the following noises from the front suspension: 1. A creaking noise from under the front of the vehicle (front lower arm bushing) when driving over bumps at approximate 12 - 25 mph (20 - 40 Km/h). The noise occurs when the road surface is wet or after the vehicle has been washed. The noise becomes more noticeable as the bumps get higher. The creaking noise is caused by the front lower arm bushing (A) making a stick-slip noise during wet road conditions. 2. A clunking noise from the front coil spring when driving over bumps. The clunking noise is due to stickslip between the front strut bearing (B) and the coil spring (C). 3. A popping noise from the bump stopper (D) when driving through gutters. To eliminate the noise, the following mass-production changes have been made: 1. The coating treatment of the lower arm bushing has been changed to reduce friction and prevent stick-slip. 2. Protectors have been installed onto the coil springs to prevent stick-slip. 3. The bump stopper has been modified and grease application has been added to prevent the stick-slip.
SA-016-192019-04-25. Service bulletin. WHEELS; SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING. There have been warranty claims submitted for noise in differentials, transfer units and transmissions where the source of the noise was a wheel bearing. This misdiagnosis can lead to multiple repair attempts, warranty debits, and additional inconvenience and/or cost to the customer. To reduce the chance of this occurring, please follow the steps outlined in the repair procedure.
02-003-19-35472019-02-19. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. Beginning with the CX-5, grip type front and rear stabilizer bushings have been incorporated for noise prevention purposes. If any type of grease or lubrication is applied to the bushings, it may create noise due to bushing slippage.
