| 04-005-22 | 2023-01-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Front Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit a click noise when first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR when first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. This is caused by deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Front Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles may exhibit the brakes having an unusual noise or vibration when applying the brake. This is caused by rust on the brake disc plate’s surface. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit grooves in rear brake disc plate(s). This concern is mostly found on new or low mileage vehicles, when the brakes are new. The grooves may be caused through abrasion from the accumulation of metal particles from the rear brake disc plates. The metal particles get caught between the brake pads and disc plates causing groove damage. To eliminate this concern, the disc plate surface honing process has been changed to reduce metal particle formation. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles equipped with an electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. This may be caused by the rear brake pads not having the capability to remove the rust from the rear brake discs. This is caused by rust on the brake disc plate’s surface. NOTE: The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise. |

| 04-001/22 | 2022-04-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit a click or squeak noise from the front brakes under the following conditions: 2016-2022 CX-9 2018-2022 CX-5 (Click noise): 1. When first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR 2. When first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. Cause: Due to deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Mass-Production Change: None 2016-2018 CX-9 (Squeak noise): During light braking. Cause: Occurs when the front brake pads have been worn to certain levels. As the pads wear, the chamfer goes away and the grease between the pad and the shim deteriorates. Mass-Production Change: As of Apr. 27, 2018, the chamfer shape of the brake pad was improved to increase durability. |

Some vehicles may exhibit: Vehicle body vibration when moving from a stop while using the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) automatic release function. Uneven rear brake pad wear. These concerns may be caused because the automatic EPB caliper release timing is too late for the movement of the vehicle. NOTE: Frequent usage of the EPB automatic release function may promote uneven rear brake pad wear. To eliminate these concerns, the EPB control module logic has been modified. |

This concern will most likely occur during the vehicles first forward movement after starting the engine. This is a normal operating noise of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). Do not attempt any repairs. If you encounter a customer complaint for this concern, explain that the noise comes from the ABS/TCS/DSC "Malfunction Detection Function" initial check and that there is no problem. This initial checkis a necessary function to ensure the normal operation of the ABS/TCS/DSC system. It occurs when the vehicles first moves forward under the following conditions. NOTE: Some customers may describe that the noise does not occur all the time. It does occur all the time, but the sound is more likely to be heard on a slow start and not on a quick start (quick acceleration) when engine noise is louder. |
