Service bulletins for the 2017 Mazda CX-5
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| SA-023-23 | 2023-05-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may experience any of the following: Engine no start due to battery discharge Ignition cannot be turned OFF Infotainment remains ON after the ignition is turned OFF Infotainment display is blank Commander switch is inoperative Remote transmitters are inoperative This may be caused by a liquid spill at the front cup holder. |
| 09-019-23 | 2023-05-03. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Some customers may complain of foggy rear combination lights (as shown below) after a car wash or heavy rain. |
| 06-001-23a | 2023-05-03. Service bulletin. STEERING. Some vehicles may exhibit wear/peel-off of the leather steering wheel surface causing a poor appearance. This concern may be caused by an insufficient wear resistance of the steering wheel surface. |
| SA-012-23 | 2023-04-04. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM; VISIBILITY. Some customers may report an odor or water in the HVAC system and upon inspection, the cabin air filter may be found to be wet. |
| SA-016-23 | 2023-04-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. There are currently 2 methods for cutting a new auxiliary key blank. A. Auxiliary Key Trace Cut Method. B. Auxiliary Key Code Cut Method |
| SA-010-23 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; VISIBILITY; EXTERIOR LIGHTING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may experience one or more electrical malfunctions after a vehicle body repair. The newly painted fender stay (2) may be causing a poor front harness (1) ground connection. |
| SA-007-23 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. The rear differential case could develop a crack in the case. NOTE: This could affect new vehicles just delivered to the dealer as well as customer vehicles. This concern is caused when the sliding bearing (1) in the coupling (2) is seized and causes the coupling component to fit loosely. The pinion shaft head (3) then contacts the differential case and causes a crack. |
| 07-002-23 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. Some customers may complain that the ambient temperature on the instrument cluster is displayed more than 50 °F (10°C) lower than the actual temperature, resulting in insufficient performance of the air conditioning. This is caused by inappropriate soldering in the ambient temperature sensor. To eliminate this concern, the soldering process has been enhanced since December 2021 at the supplier. |
| 09-016-23 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:INSTRUMENT PANEL:SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER. Speedometer replacement procedure |
| 08-002-23 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY; AIR BAGS; AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION:STATUS INDICATOR LAMP/LIGHT. Some customers may experience the airbag warning light ON with DTC B00A0:09 stored in the SAS control module memory when the battery voltage is low. DTC B00A0:09 (Occupant classification sensor internal signal output unstable). This concern is caused by the low voltage detection time of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) being too short during cranking, which causes detection of the DTC unnecessarily. The concern occurs more often in colder weather when greater electric current is consumed to start the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the OCS has been modified to avoid unnecessary DTC detection. NOTE: Even if the voltage is recovered after the engine is started, the airbag warning light stays ON during the drive cycle. When the battery voltage becomes stable after the engine is started, the airbag system will operate normally. |
| 04-001-23a | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Front Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit a click noise when first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR when first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. This is caused by deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Front Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles may exhibit the brakes having an unusual noise or vibration when applying the brake. This is caused by rust on the brake disk plate’s surface. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the rear brakes while braking lightly and occurs more frequently when driving at slow speeds. The noise is caused by poor contact between the guide plate and the mounting support. To eliminate this concern, the material of the pads has been changed to copper-free and the specification of the shims has been changed to a coated spring with tape. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles equipped with an electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. This may be caused by the rear brake pads not having the capability to remove the rust from the rear brake discs. The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise. |
| SA-007/23 | 2023-02-02. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. The rear differential case could develop a crack in the case NOTE: This could affect new vehicles just delivered to the dealer as well as customer vehicles. This concern is caused when the sliding bearing in the coupling is seized and causes the coupling component to fit loosely. The pinion shaft head then contacts the differential case and causes a crack. |

If you encounter any type of electrical concern (e.g, dead battery, engine no start, DTC(s) stored...), interview the customer before proceeding with normal MGSS diagnosis by asking if any aftermarket devices have been installed. Aftermarket devices may be the cause of the electrical concern. Below are a few examples of unusual electrical concerns caused by aftermarket devices. Examples: 1. Devices connected to the DLC-2 (battery discharge/DTC stored) 2. Cell phone charger/accessory in 12V socket (engine no start or unable to turn off) 3. GPS tracking device (engine no start/battery discharge) 4. Dash cam (DTC stored) 5. Non-certified USB cable (Apple Carplay™/ Android Auto™ will not connect) 6.
