Service bulletins for the 2016 GMC Sierra
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| PIT5206F | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician with the steps on diagnosing and repairing vehicles that may have unwanted grade braking, reduced engine power with no Driver Information Center messages “ Brake Pedal Override Feature “, transmission busy or frequent shifting up or down, and Diagnostic Trouble Codes P057B, P057C, and/or P057D may or may not be set. Technician will use this preliminary information to find the brake pedal position data parameters in the scan tool, and also to provide some additional diagnostic help. These issues may be caused by an incorrect brake pedal position sensor input to the engine control module. Technician will verify with the scan tool if the engine control module has the correct parameters for the brake pedal position sensor. If an engine control module brake pedal position sensor relearn is performed, the truck may be temporarily repaired until the intermittent wiring issue between the engine control module and brake pedal position sensor occurs again. On 2014 and newer trucks inspect and repair any damage to X115 and X119. On the 2014 and previous trucks inspect and repair any damage to X205. |

| PIT5232D | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps to diagnose and repair the concern of the display is showing 32° F (0° C) after a battery or reprogramming a module. The outside temperature will begin to update if driven above 20 mph for at least 5 minutes. If the vehicle speed drops below 20 mph, the timer will reset and the display will stop updating. Once the display starts to update it may take several more minutes of driving above 20 mph for the display to fully update. Also if the vehicle is shut off for more than 8 hours the display will update when the ignition is turned on. |
| PIT5359B | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a radio backlighting will stay on even after the ignition has been turned off and the key has been removed for several minutes, eventually the battery will drain. Technician may find following fuses F23DL F22DL F30DL F31DL F32DL with the ignition key in the off position to have voltage. Technician should not replace the Transfer Case Control Module. Technician will need to install a diode, part number 12112422, across the coil of the solenoid. It is important that the striped end of the diode be connected to the positive terminal of the coil and the other end of the diode be connected to ground. |
| PIT5533A | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a creak, click, pop, and or crack type noise from the front suspension or front frame area while making tight turns. Technician will need to loosen and then re-torque the four front frame cross member nuts and bolts. |
| PIP5370A | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician that some vehicle may have an ?Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor? on the Driver Information Center or a diesel exhaust fluid warning lamp on or other exhaust fluid quality related concerns. Technician will inspect the diesel exhaust fluid for contamination. Technician should use Service Information for Contaminants in Diesel Exhaust Fluid Diagnosis and use special tool J26568 or EN50422 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Refractometer for fluid testing. |
| PIP5211F | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps needed to diagnose and repair vehicles with a rough idle and/or vibration at idle in Drive. This condition will not be present in Park, or Neutral. This concern may be caused by ground out within the one or both engine mounts. Technician will use CH-51450-A (Pico Oscilloscope) to measure the vibration disturbance. If the vibration concern is E1.5 in the horizontal / lateral direction with Pico sensor mounted in seat track as indicated ? continue with steps to reduce the amplitude of the vibration by adding spacers in key locations to reduce ground out within the engine mounts. The 6.2L engine has a characteristic E1 which can be felt, and may be described as a lopey idle. Do not confuse 6.2L E1 characteristic (not caused by mount ground-out), with E1.5 normal idle characteristics being transmitted into the truck via ground-out thru the engine mounts. If measuring high at the seat track 12 mg or greater; replacement of the engine mounts should help reduce the amplitude of the vibration. If the disturbance measures at the seat track as E1.5 lateral in the range of approximately 2.5 - 8 mg using a tri-axis sensor. Then place tri-axis Pico sensor on the inboard seat track forward-most location to record measurement of the rough idle vibration concern. With the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning on perform several short heavy launch events from stop to stop to bring the temperatures back up while attempting to re-create the rough idle vibration in Drive with Pico sensor placed on inboard seat track; while the vibration is active ? Record Pico reading. This method seems to provide better results than extended test drives. If the Pico reading for E1.5, with vibration active, at specified seat track location measures close to 2mg or less use Service Information to diagnose rough idle / vibration. If the Pico reading for E1.5, with vibration active, at the inboard forward seat track l |
| PIT5236H | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a Diagnostic Trouble Code B101D stored in Telematics Communication Interface Control Module. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the step to diagnose and repair the vehicles that may have a shake or shudder during light throttle acceleration, between 30 and 65 mph steady state driving. Also shudder feeling that may be described as driving over rumble strips or rough pavement. Technician will drive the vehicle and monitor the torque converter clutch slip. The torque converter clutch slip speed should be 10 rpm or less also note if the shudder takes place during torque converter clutch apply. If the torque converter clutch slip speed is in the range of 10 RPM or less the condition is possibly related to engine performance. If the shudder is only present in 4 cylinder mode and torque converter clutch slip is 10 rpm or less deem the shudder concern normal characteristic of Active Fuel Management. If the slip speed is beyond 10 rpm or there is shudder during torque converter clutch apply the torque converter will need to be replaced. Also flush the cooler lines and cooler using DT-45096 transmission oil cooling system flush and flow test tool. |
