Service bulletins for the 2016 GMC Sierra

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

PIT5398A2017-08-15. Service bulletin. STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; LANE DEPARTURE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have the rear vision camera system displaying "Rear Park Assist Symbols Unavailable" and the steering grid lines displayed do not show. If the vehicle is in reverse, the rear vision camera will display "Rear Park Assist Symbols Unavailable" and does not have Regular Production Option Code UD5 or UD7 the radio must be updated using Service Programming System to correct this concern. Some vehicles may not show steering guide/grid lines displayed in the Rear Vision Camera display. Dealer should communicate to the customer that steering guide/grid lines are not available with this base radio Regular Production Option Code (IO3). Some vehicles while in reverse and the rear park assist system detects an object, the warning triangle symbol is displayed on the wrong side of the radio display. Engineering is aware of the issue and updated radio/tuner calibrations will be released shortly.

Check the body control module ground at the G218 location. The front dash insulator mat may be trapped between the ground eyelet and the body stud. Remove the round nut and eyelet and cut the front dash insulator mat away from the ground stud so it no longer interferes with the ground stud and reinstall the eyelet and ground nut.

PIT55012017-08-15. Service bulletin. STEERING; STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT PITMAN. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnosis and repair steering that feels loose or has excessive play. This concern could be cause by an incorrect Pitman Shaft Over-Center Preload Adjustment. Technician will perform a Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Over-Center Preload Adjustment procedure. Technician will remove the steering gear. The steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster nut will need to be loosened. Turn the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster screw counterclockwise until fully extended. Turn the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster screw clockwise one full turn. Rotate the steering gear input shaft from stop to stop using a socket designed for the input shaft geometry, or crows foot with ratchet while counting the number of turns. Starting at either stop, turn the steering gear input shaft back half the total number of turns counted previously. This is the center position of the steering. Ensure the steering gear pitman shaft is centered. The flat on the steering gear input shaft should be facing upward and parallel with the steering gear side cover. Also the master spline on the steering gear pitman shaft is in line with the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster screw. Use a torque wrench on the steering gear input shaft to rotate the steering gear input shaft 300 degrees from each side of the center of the input shaft. The input shaft MUST rotate smoothly and must NOT stick or bind. Record the average turning torque from -300 to +300 degree sweep. The average "off center friction" torque must be 0.4 to 1.1 Nm (4 to 10 in lbs). If the torque is outside this range, replace the steering gear assembly. Tighten the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster nut to 75-85Nm (55-63 lb ft). Reprogram the Power Steering Control module with the latest calibrations in Tis2Web. Using the scan tool perform a Steering Angle Sensor Centering. Then use the scan tool to perform a Power Steering Pressure S
PIC3278G2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; STEERING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps needed to diagnose and repair the vehicles that may have unwanted or phantom phone calls. Technician will need to determine what type of call the customer is having that is unwanted. The vehicle may receive an incoming call just like any other phone. Typically the customer will hear the phone ringing in the vehicle. This scenario also includes incoming Bluetooth calls. One type of unwanted call can be made if the key pad is faulty the OnStar system will try to make a blue button call for shorted voltage in the circuits. The OnStar module could have an internal fault and produce a ″Phone Unavailable″ audio message also it may have a Diagnostic Trouble Code U1500 or B1000. Refer to diagnostics for the Diagnostic Trouble Code making sure to follow any applicable Bulletins or Preliminary Information sheets. A “Ready” or “OnStar ready” audio message heard while driving. In some cases it has been found that the customer is inadvertently pressing the ″push to talk″ button on the steering wheel controls. On rare occasions, other issues in the steering column or Steering Wheel Control system may induce this concern.
