| SSM 52335 | 2024-03-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed. |

| SSM 52334 | 2024-03-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2024 Mustang and F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a tick tap and/or typewriter ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150°F (65°C) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPM. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise tick rate can be faster or slower and is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted. This information along with an example audio clip has been added to the WSM Section 303-00 Engine System General Information > Diagnosis and Testing > Engine > PPT F > Step F2. |
| TSB 22-2140 | 2022-04-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some 2015-2020 Mustang Shelby GT350/GT350R vehicles may exhibit a hesitation or surge in the vehicle with no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present. This may be accompanied by an inoperative cruise control system. This may be due to a transmission output shaft flange nut that has come loose, allowing the output shaft tone ring to move in relation to the output shaft causing an erroneous signal. To resolve the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the output shaft flange nut. |
| SSM 49821 | 2021-06-01. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2015-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| SSM 49761 | 2021-05-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2021 Mustang and F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150F (65Å’C) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPMs. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted. |
| SSM 49210 | 2020-10-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2009-2020 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbochargers may exhibit an oil leak from the turbocharger oil supply or return tubes, O-rings or 6.7L pedestal gasket. Although oil may collect on the turbocharger, it is very rare for a turbocharger to leak oil. To isolate the source of the leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 General Information > Diagnosis and Testing > Engine > Engine Oil Leaks - Fluorescent Oil Additive Method procedure. When an oil leak is present at a turbocharger oil supply or drain tube, remove the affected oil tube and inspect for damage, and replace the O-ring seals, pedestal gasket or oil tube as required. Refer to WSM, Section 303-04. For claiming, use the affected oil tube or pedestal gasket as the causal part and applicable labor operations in Sections 6 and 9 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| TSB 19-2309 | 2019-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2015-2017 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit an oil leak from either valve cover gasket. This may be due to the valve covers warping due to excessive heat. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to add fasteners to both valve covers. |
| TSB 19-2260 | 2019-09-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2015-2017 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit an oil leak from either valve cover gasket. This may be due to the number of fasteners used to hold the valve cover onto the cylinder head. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to add fasteners to both valve covers. |
| SSM 47948 | 2019-05-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE. SSM 47948 - 2010-2019 Various Vehicles - Turbocharged Engines - Oil Supply Filter Replacement When Replacing The Turbocharger Or The Turbocharger Oil Supply Tube For 2010-2019 vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, when diagnosing and/or replacing turbo related concerns, all steps within the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure must be followed including replacement of all mandatory discarded parts. When specified in the WSM, the turbocharger oil supply filter must be replaced whenever the turbocharger or the turbocharger oil supply tube are replaced. Turbocharger bearing failure may occur if oil starvation occurs due to a restricted filter. |
| SSM 47662 | 2019-01-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. For 2010-2019 vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, when diagnosing and/or replacing turbo related concerns, all steps within the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure must be followed including replacement of all mandatory discarded parts. For all turbocharged engine applications, the turbocharger oil supply filter (6C683 gas engine/6L625 connector style or 6A968 diesel engine) must be replaced whenever the turbocharger or the turbocharger oil supply tube are replaced. Some 2015-2017 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0300 through P0308 present. A noticeable misfire may or may not accompany these DTCs. If normal diagnostics do not lead to a root cause for this concern, remove the intake manifold from the vehicle and verify the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) plates move when the IMRC actuators are moved by hand. These plates are visible through the outlet ports of the intake manifold. If the IMRC plates do not move when the IMRC actuators are moved by hand, the intake manifold should be replaced. For claiming, use causal part 9424 and applicable labor operations in Section 9 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| SSM 47364 | 2018-07-23. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT. Some 2015-2018 Mustang GT350s may exhibit an engine oil leak that appears to be originating from the oil filter adapter or oil cooler. If the leak appears to be originating from the oil cooler, be aware that the leak may actually be originating from the oil filter adapter, and oil may run down the oil cooler tubes and drip off of the cooler, making it appear that the leak is originating from the oil cooler. If the true source of the leak is caused by a damaged O-ring where the oil cooler tubes meet the oil filter adapter, be aware that these O-rings are now available as a separate service part from the oil cooler tubes. Replacement O-rings can be ordered using part number FR3Z-00815-A. For claiming, use causal part 6B850 and applicable labor operations in Section 6 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |

The Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual has been revised for diagnosing electronic throttle bodies (ETBs). The ETC_ACT and ETC_DSD PIDs should not used to diagnose possible ETB concerns. The IDS has a limited refresh rate when reading these PIDs and cannot display quickly enough to validate a concern. The PCM automatically monitors these inputs more accurately and will set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) when appropriate. Using these PIDs for diagnostics will lead to inaccurate results and improper ETB replacements. If a concern is intermittent and no DTCs are present, refer to historical DTCs and the PC/ED, Section 3 No DTCs Present Index chart for further information. |
| TSB 16-0121 | 2017-08-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER.
