SSM 516912023-06-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. 2011-2023 F-Super Duty and 2016-2024 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages.
SSM 498052021-06-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2021 vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may have engine oil in the exhaust after turbocharger replacement for various reasons. To correct the condition, remove the exhaust and stand the exhaust up with the turbocharger inlet side facing down using a suitable drain pan. Allow the exhaust to drain for at least 24 hours and reinstall. Do not perform a manual exhaust regeneration.
TSB19-21422019-06-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV). Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty chassis cab/dual rear wheel (DRW) pickup vehicles and 2016-2019 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit a concern of oil consumption in applications where the engine is idled for extended periods of time. This may be due to high crankcase pressure as a result of the crankcase ventilation filter element becoming restricted. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the crankcase oil separator. The new crankcase vent oil separator appears different from the old crankcase vent oil separator as it no longer includes a serviceable filter element. Follow the service procedure steps to correct the condition.
TSB 19-20292019-04-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine built on or before 9-Jan-2019 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTCs P2074 and/or P0170. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 477122019-03-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty and 2016-2019 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2019 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
SSM 476412019-01-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty, 2015-2019 Transit, 2016-2019 F-650/F-750 and 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the aftertreatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end aftertreatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
SSM 473462018-07-23. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine built on or before 6-Dec-2017 may exhibit an exhaust odor in the vehicle cabin. This may be due to a leak at the turbocharger inlet clamps. Performing a pressurized smoke test on the exhaust system will aid in locating the source of a leak. While performing the smoke test, the use of a small mirror can help identify leaks underneath the clamps. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual Pinpoint Test KA, Step KA3. Note that the turbo charger is not a contributing factor in the exhaust leak issue.
SSM 472662018-05-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2016-2018 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTC P20EE stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). When diagnosing this DTC, if pinpoint test (PPT) RD leads to Step RD27, proceed to Step RD28. This is due to PID NOx12 (NUM) incorrectly reading NOx11 (NUM) in the PCM. The NOx12 (NUM) PID will read the same as the NOx11 (NUM) PID. If the NOx Catalyst Conversion Efficiency Value PID reads less than 60% in Step RD28, replace the nitrogen oxides (NOx) sensor 12 and retest before replacing the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) catalyst. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.
SSM 471102018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty/2016-2018 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines and 2015-2018 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines may exhibit a MIL on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Prior to performing Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test RJ, confirm DEF concentration using IDS to monitor REDUCT_CONC_MES. This PID reading may fluctuate between 31% and 34% indicating DEF concentration is correct. A concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. This reading may also be checked using Central Tools Refractometer (CEN3R201) which should indicate a similar percentage as the PID. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts.
SSM 470922018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. 2018 F-Super Duty/F-650/F-750 and Transit vehicles equipped with 6.7L or 3.2L diesel engines may exhibit a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P20EE. The 2018 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual pinpoint test RD for DTC P20EE does not reflect the most current diagnostic information. Refer to the 2017 PC/ED for F-Super Duty diesel engine vehicles for the latest diagnostic information. Monitor OASIS for updates.
