SSM 487892020-06-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT; ENGINE. Some 2018-2020 Model Year F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may experience an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTC P2196 and/or P2198 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). Engineering is working to implement a solution for this condition. In the interim, clear the DTCs with the appropriate Ford scan tool and schedule a follow-up appointment with the customer for early July 2020. Advise the customer that a repair is expected to be available in June 2020 and that the condition has no effect on vehicle operation or long term durability.
SSM 485632020-03-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; STEERING. SSM 48563 - 2017-2020 F-150 - No Crank/No Start, Multiple Illuminated Warning Indicators And/Or DTCs Some 2017-2020 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a no crank/no start, auto start stop inoperative, illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or powertrain malfunction indicator lamp, transmission shift concerns, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P061A, U0140, U0401, U0101, U0074 and/or U0037 being set in the powertrain control module (PCM), transmission control module (TCM), instrument panel cluster (IPC), front controls interface module (FCIM), anti-lock braking system (ABS) module and/or power steering control module (PSCM). This may be due to the 15525 transmission wire harness not being properly secured. Visually inspect the harness for possible damage and proper routing at the rear of the engine down to the transmission. Repair as necessary. If no concerns are found, proceed with normal diagnosis.
SSM 484232020-01-08. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2015-2020 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the engine to transmission spacer plate with a new engine to transmission spacer plate that includes a bend for additional clearance.
TSB 19-22302019-10-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2018-2019 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine built on or before 12-Feb-2019 may exhibit a rattling sound coming from the transmission bellhousing area. This may be due to the torque converter studs contacting the engine to transmission spacer plate. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the engine to transmission spacer plate with a new engine to transmission spacer plate that includes a bend for additional clearance.
SSM 480882019-08-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. 2019 F-150/Expedition/Navigator vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive (4WD) have a revised transfer case control module (TCCM) strategy that will affect integrated wheel end (IWE) operation after initial start up. The TCCM will not energize the solenoid to supply vacuum to the IWEs after the initial key cycle and a driven gear is selected. The IWEs will remain engaged for 0.8 km (0.5 mi) when the temperature is above 0Å’C (32Å’F) and 3 km (2 mi) when below 0Å’C (32Å’F). The strategy changes were implemented to improve vacuum supply management and axle warm up in cold temperatures. The engine must run for a minimum of 5 minutes to build sufficient vacuum before performing any vacuum related testing. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM) Section, 307-08A - Four-Wheel Drive Systems - System Operation and Component Description for additional information.
SSM 480822019-08-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2015-2018 F-150/Expedition/Navigator vehicles equipped with a 3.5L/2.7L EcoBoost engine and four-wheel drive (4WD) may exhibit an intermittent grinding type noise while driving in two-wheel drive (2WD), most commonly on acceleration. This noise could appear to be turbocharger related. After engineering analysis of returned turbochargers that have been replaced for this condition, no concerns were identified with the turbochargers. The grinding type noise may be related to the 4WD system integrated wheel ends (IWE). To aid in diagnosis, shift the vehicle to 4WD and attempt to verify the condition. If the grinding noise no longer occurs with the vehicle in 4WD a IWE vacuum system and/or mechanical fault may be present.
SSM 479762019-06-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission it is imperative that the converter pilot hub be greased with Motorcraft Multi-Purpose Grease Spray XL-5-A even if grease was not applied from the factory. Also verify that the engine/transmission alignment dowel pins are present as well as the engine crankshaft dowel pin, if equipped, when installing the transmission. Failure to adequately lubricate the converter hub greatly increases the likelihood of the flexplate cracking in the future. Missing dowels may cause a misalignment issue also resulting in a premature failure. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
TSB19-21702019-06-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2018-2019 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine and built on or before 12-Feb-2019 may exhibit a rattling sound coming from the transmission bellhousing area. This may be due to the torque converter studs contacting the engine to transmission spacer plate. Follow the procedure to correct the condition.
SSM 479032019-05-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. SSM 47903 - 2018-2019 F-150/F-Super Duty/Transit - Rear Axle Pinion Seal Fluid Leak/Seepage Some 2018-2019 F-150, F-Super Duty, and Transit vehicles may exhibit the appearance of a fluid leak or seepage from the rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of a fluid leak or seepage on a vehicle with less than 500 miles or less than 3 months in service may not be due to a failed rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of fluid around the seal may be from the axle assembly being shipped to the vehicle assembly plant with the pinion facing down. To determine if a leak is present, clean the seal area of any residual lubricant and visually inspect the pinion seal for leaks or damage in the seal contact area or dust slinger on the pinion flange dust shield. If no concerns are found, run the vehicle on a hoist in DRIVE at idle speeds for 10 minutes to allow the fluid to circulate and recheck for signs of leakage.
TSB 19-20492019-05-06. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2019 Mustang and F-150 vehicles built on or before 8-Jan-2019 and equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P1289 and/or P017D stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor. To resolve the condition, replace the CHT sensor.
SSM 478122019-04-08. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2017-2019 F-150, 2018-2019 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a whine noise. This may occur at idle and while driving coming from the bell housing and front pan area of the transmission. The whine noise may become louder when at operating temperature and increases with higher engine RPM in the PARK position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R80 transmission due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability.
