This technical bulletin provides repair information to correct a customer concern for the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on, multiple diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are set, the vehicle may not start, and/or may have blown fuses.
GCUS-3-6202018-05-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. 27660 - Service Update. The engine may stall, followed by a Driver Information Center (DIC) message ?Action Required-Engine Not Available?. This will also cause diagnostic trouble codes P0AB9 (Hybrid/EV System Performance) and P0AC4 (Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module Requested MIL Illumination) to set. The engine will not start until the key is cycled. Dealers will reprogram the drive motor power inverter module.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician to reprogram the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2 when the vehicle will not charge at a 240 volt Panasonic public charge stations when generation 1 vehicles charge at the same port. General Motors is aware of this condition and is working both internally as well as with the charge station supplier on possible solutions.

This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician if a vehicle has a Service Engine Soon lamp with Diagnostic Trouble Code P0AE3 current or history. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2 will need to be reprogrammed using Service Programming System.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a Shift to Park message on the Driver Information Center. Technician will find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P1AEE, P1AEF, P1AF0, P1AF2, and P1E22. Technician will need to replace the transmission. Technician will need to review the latest version of PIP5321 for the Volt and PIP5390 for the Malibu.

THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION ADVISES THE TECHNICIAN THE 5ET50 ELECTRIC VARIABLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY AND COMPONENT IS BEING PLACED ON RESTRICTION THROUGH THE GENERAL MOTORS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER. DEALER WILL NEED TO CALL GENERAL MOTORS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.
439402017-01-24. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. 43940 - SERVICE UPDATE. CERTAIN 2016 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET MALIBU AND 2016-2017 CHEVROLET VOLT VEHICLES MAY HAVE A CONDITION WHERE A BURR MAY BE PRESENT ON THE SPRING END WHICH IS PART OF THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY RESULT IN AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF “PARK.” INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY IF REQUIRED.
