Service bulletins for the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped.

This bulletin provides a service procedure to install the original design temperature-sensor wiring harness to the valve body on certain 2015 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Silverado; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles, equipped with a 6.2L engine (L86) and 8-speed automatic transmission (M5U). The supplier of the transmission-wiring harness introduced an unapproved change to the temperature sensor (thermistor), resulting in incorrect oil-temperature readings during transition from cold to warm temperatures. This could cause a harsh shift when starting the vehicle at temperatures below 32ºF (0ºC); however, shift quality improves once the transmission oil warms up.
PIP5168F2018-02-21. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT; BACK OVER PREVENTION; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a no crank concern. Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published “Engine Cranks But Does Not Run” diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
