Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW R 1200 GS
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Drivetrain Malfunction Warning is illuminated and DME fault code 1C4002 (Engine oil level: too low) is stored. Customer complains that Check Control Message (Low Oil level") has never been displayed. The engine oil level measurement test works correctly and shows low oil level when checked under Vehicle Status tab in CID. Instrument cluster software error. |
| MC2100116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. BMW Motorrad has determined in the course of quality observation that in a few cases clutch fluid may leak between the clutch slave cylinder and the braided stainless steel clutch line. The cause is a burr in the clutch slave cylinder which may damage the gasket of the clutch line. A vehicle with high mileage can show signs of gradual impairment of the clutch function. The separating action of the clutch can worsen gradually over a period of time. |
| B123314 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 12 33 14 dated December 2015. SUBJECT Fault Code 1D2008 Stored in DME. The Service Engine Soon light is on. Fault Code 1D2008: Map thermostat: jammed open is stored in the DME. There may also be a complaint of low heat output with lower outside temperatures. CAUSE During the engine warm-up, the engine coolant does not reach operating temperature within the DME's allowable time limits. This is caused by either a faulty thermostat inside the transmission oil heat exchanger or a faulty engine characteristic map thermostat. |
| B111015 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The Service Engine Soon light is on with corresponding fault codes in the DME for the engine thermostat. |
| B111117 | 2018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye. |
| B121017 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. "ENGINE IDLE TOO HIGH AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE. Primarily when vehicle is at altitudes higher than 5000' above sea level, and engine is at operating temperature, the idle is sporadically elevated (up to approx. 1200 rpm).
