Service bulletins for the 2015 BMW i3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

The charging requirements vary depending on how the vehicle is being used. Refer to the following scenarios for the appropriate charging recommendations. In addition, certain precautions must be followed during charging to prevent damage to certain high-voltage components. Diagnosis: * During diagnostic work on the vehicle, a charging cable must be connected via the vehicle's charge port. A level 1 (Occasional Use Cable), level 2 (Wallbox), or DC charger may be used. Repair work: * During non-electrical or low-voltage repair work which is not associated with the drivetrain or any highvoltage components: * The vehicle must be turned off (KL0) and plugged in using an HV charging cable, i.e., Level 1 Occasional Use Cable. * During work on, or near high-voltage components or any drivetrain components: * o The high-voltage system must be shut down by properly trained personnel via Repair Instruction REP 61 25 900. If the vehicle needs to be turned on during the repair process, the vehicle should be connected to a workshop power supply at the 12V service posts on the Electric Machine Electronics (EME). Programming: * During programming with ISTA/P, the high-voltage system must be shut down by properly trained personnel. * A workshop power supply, e.g., DUETRONIC 1600, must be connected to the 12V service posts on the EME. 6522142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM). Automated Activation of Navigation System During PDI/QC1. INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle through the iDrive controller, by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.

B6102152018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Clicking Noise from Off-board Charger. While the vehicle is charging, the off-board charger is clicking. The clicking noise comes from the relays inside the charger cycling off and on. This condition most commonly occurs when the vehicle is fully charged; it is plugged into the charger; and then pre-conditioning is activated via the BMW iRemote app. The cycling of the relays can last from a few seconds to several minutes. Despite this cycling, the vehicle will continue to charge and pre-condition normally. While this condition can affect any off-board charger brand (Level 1 or 2), the Clipper Creek HCSSeries (Level 2/240V) charger tends to be more susceptible. CAUSE This situation is caused by an EME software issue that allows, depending on the electrical load demand from the vehicle, the charging to cycle on and off excessively.

INFORMATION The Headunit High (HU-H), also called NBT, began replacing the Car Information Computer (CIC) on certain MY2013 vehicles with option 609. This change will affect the navigation system road map data support process and the warranty spare parts processes for the HU-H. For the US market, all vehicles will come pre-loaded from the factory with the latest navigation system road map database version that was available at the time of vehicle production. Therefore, there will be no physical copy of the navigation system road map data media DVD set or USB stick placed in these vehicles at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC). NOTE: Additionally, all replacement HU-H parts come with a pre-loaded version of the current available navigation system road map database installed. A set of DVD copies of the navigation system road map database, HU-H NAVI Road Map North America NEXT, is shipped to all BMW centers through the automatic tool shipment program with each release of a navigation system road map database. IMPORTANT: Additional copies or earlier NAV road map database versions cannot be ordered individually! Therefore, please take special care to archive the HU-H NAV road map DVD sets! The NAV road map data on the DVD set can also be installed into the Network Attached Storage (NAS).
