Service bulletins for the 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

B1219152018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT. Service Action: Replace EME B+ Cable. The Electric Machine Electronics (EME) has a connection for the B+ cable which leads to the 12V battery. This B+ cable transfers energy from the DC/DC converter to the 12V network. This cable may corrode over time and, in extreme cases, could break. In the event of a cable break, output from the DC/DC converter would be interrupted. This interruption would cause the 12V battery to discharge. Subsequently the customer would be notified via a check control message that the 12V battery is discharging, and the vehicle may not restart after being switched off.
1215132018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?N20 and N26 Engine: Various VANOS System Faults Stored in DME. B3402152018-11-13. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. "PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS. SUBJECT Service Action: Program Control Units (DSC). In very rare driving situations (distances of more than 310 miles travelled without any DSC, ABS or cruise control/ACC regulation), the DSC return pump is activated in order to initiate internal flushing. When this occurs, it is possible that the pump is not switched off until the engine is turned off. VEHICLES AFFECTED This Service Action involves certain ActiveHybrid models produced from 8/6/2013 to 1/27/2015. First check if a Service Action label with a code number 739 is already attached to the B-pillar. If a code number 739 has been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary. Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as ""Open"" when checked either in the ""Service Menu"" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader."
B1214152018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "DME Fault Code CD9711 Stored After Programming. B1116142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE. "This bulletin outlines the procedure for checking the engine timing chains for wear, and should be completed in conjunction with SI B11 06 14, ""N63 Customer Care Package."" The N63CCP and N63 Engine Check the Timing Chain are NOT mandatory Technical Campaigns or Recalls. They should be completed only based on parts availability, workshop capacity, and the customer's schedule. Performing the test plans identified in the procedure below will detect wear at an early stage and, if necessary, provide a repair solution. To avoid future valvetrain wear, the vehicle must be reprogrammed and a shorter oil service interval must be retrofitted via ISTA/P. Finally, drain and replace the engine's oil and filter. After completing all necessary repairs included in the N63 Customer Care Package and the Timing Chain Check, the vehicle must be test driven for up to 30 minutes to ensure that the repairs were performed to the highest standard. AFFECTED VEHICLES This Service Action applies to E70, E71, E72, F01, F02, F04, F07, F10, F12, and F13 vehicles with the N63 engines corresponding to the production dates listed above. First check if a Service Action label with a code number 728 is already attached to the B-pillar. If a code number 728 has already been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary. Eligible vehicles will show the following Service Action-related Campaign Code: 00 13 48 02 00 If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label."

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
