Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW 550i

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

188 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

B5115172018-11-05. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:HOOD:LATCH. HOOD DOES NOT RELEASE PROPERLY. Hood lever is pulled twice but the hood only achieves the pre-latch position on one side while the other is still latched. Downward pressure on the side of the hood that remains latched will release it to the pre-latch position. After pre-latch position is achieved on both sides, the hood unlatch lever must be pulled again to achieve unlatched position. Hood latch mechanical release is not operating properly. Neither hood latch can be released to the fully open position until both have achieved the pre-latch position.

CC message "driving stabilization restricted" is displayed in the CID. The following faults are entered in the fault memory: 0x482394 EPS control unit: Initialization fault steering angle, loss of multi-turn value. 0x48078B DSC control unit: Initialization fault EPS, adjustment required. The order of transport mode deactivation and steering angle sensor initialization reversed. While in transport mode, the steering angle sensor loses calibration on every terminal change. During the QCI service, transport mode deactivation is supposed to occur prior to steering angle sensor initialization. When this is reversed, calibration is lost."
B3403172018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL:AUTOMATIC (ASC). DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL FAILURE. Instrument cluster indicates Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) failure. You cannot establish communication with the DSC control unit. Associated control units (DME, ACSM) register DSC-related communication time-outs. After battery reset, DSC operates normally and has no faults registered. Software in the DSC control module.

If the garage door opener was manufactured before 1993, it will not be compatible with any HomeLink device. Installing the compatibility bridge will NOT link these units. This is due to several incompatible frequency's used before 1993."
B6506172018-11-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. ?SATELLITE RADIO DETERIORATION IN RECEPTION QUALITY DUE TO NEW CELLULAR FREQUENCIES . INFORMATION Inform the customer that the introduction of these expanded frequencies by the wireless mobile providers may be influencing reception quality. BMW is currently working with the wireless mobile providers in order to improve the quality of reception and help alleviate the issues that are caused by the wireless mobile expanded frequencies. Once we have more information about this situation this service information bulletin will be updated. Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for BMW customers via geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. Due to this angle, buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from reaching the vehicle receiver antenna and might cause audio cut outs, unless the wireless provider has installed terrestrial repeaters. Reception quality decreases the further north you travel, as the angle of the incoming signal gets smaller. Also adverse weather conditions might affect reception. At this time, in the event of a customer complaint or inquiry on interference noise: Do not replace any parts Do not program or carry out other work on the vehicle Explain to customer about the new Wireless Communications Service (WCS) signals When investigating Satellite Radio cutouts or a temporary loss of reception: Please compare to a similarly equipped vehicle. Keep in mind the roofline of the vehicle, size of the antenna (sharkfin) and location of the antenna on the vehicle will all affect the strength of the reception. Do not compare a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) with a high roofline mounted antenna to a different vehicle such as a coupe or convertible with a much lower mounting point of the antenna. Replace no parts Do not prog
