Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW 540i
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| B111117 | 2018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye. |

| B120718 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. DME FC 1C0102 IS STORED WITH NO OTHER RELATED FAULTS. The following fault has been stored in the Digital Motor electronics (DME) fault memory with no other engine oil pressure faults stored: ??1C0102 - oil pressure control, plausibility, static: Pressure too low This fault will not cause a customer complaint or a Check Control Message (CCM). The fault is typically identified during unrelated diagnostics. Software error in the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) may cause the fault code to be erroneously stored. Only Integration level 17-11-5xx and higher are affected. |
| B111418 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. SERVICE ACTION: N63R ENGINE - CHECK AND REPLACE OIL FEED LINES AND THE MAP THERMOSTAT ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. | B720417 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; SEAT BELTS. FALSE WARNINGS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED WITHOUT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLED. Acoustic and visual warnings indicate that the front passenger seat is occupied and the seat belt is not fastened, when the seat is actually unoccupied. If the situation is currently present, sit in the seat and move the seat to a different position then the POL (Passenger Occupancy Light) light will function correctly. In some cases the Air bag Warning Light was illuminated. Advanced Crash Safety Module (ACSM) fault "930A1C - Front passenger seat occupancy detection transmitting fault (moisture)" is stored. 1. Electronics (for example smart phones or laptops) are connected to the USB charging port or cigarette lighter and placed on the seat. 2. The seat was wet (e.g. very high humidity, spilled liquids or rain). 3. Faulty plug connection to Evaluation Electronics CIS (Capacitive Interior Sensing). 4. Excessive spacing between seat mat sensor signal wires and their grounding shield sleeve. * Drying the seat mat due to moisture. * If there is no moisture, secure loose cables and install 2 cable ties * If the 2 cables ties are already installed properly, replace the seat mat * Statement added to SI - do not replace the CIS electronics or the ACSM module for this siutation. |
| B660817 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION; VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES. REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILS TO DISPLAY IMAGE. Sporadically, when the rear view camera is activated, either via selecting reverse with the shift selector or by direct camera selection, no image appears in the display. Camera function returns after terminal change. Note: This error situation can rarely, if ever, be duplicated on demand. Head-unit interface software error for the rear view camera. |
| B613017 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR (RLS): OIL LEAKAGE FROM GEL PAD. ??Oil leaking from the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS). Note: This oil serves as a separation medium between the RLS mounting gel pad and the windscreen. The oil ensures damage free disassembly in case of repair. CAUSE The oil that serves as the separation medium of the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) gel pad and the windscreen leaks out. Expose the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) and properly clean the area of all oily residue. Note: The separating oil usually leaks only once from the pad at the RLS. Due to the small oil quantity in the gel pad, additional oil leakage is not plausible. Leaking oil does not impair the function of the RLS. |
| B170418 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. DELIVERY STOP. LOW TEMPERATURE COOLANT SYSTEM.A Delivery Stop has been issued (effective October 16, 2018) on Model Year 2019 BMW 5 and 7 Series vehicles that have been produced from September 13-14, 2018.
