Service bulletins for the 2008 BMW 335xi

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

1304092018-12-03. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE. The customer may complain that during the cold start in the morning, the engine runs very roughly and the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. Various misfire fault codes (e.g., 29CC, 29D2, 29D1, 29D0, 29C0, 29CF) may be stored in the DME control module. The engine rough running complaint can be reproduced on a cold start in the workshop. During the course of diagnosis, the spark plugs, removed from the misfiring cylinders after the problem was reproduced, are found to be soaked (?wet?) with fuel, while the injector tips are covered with a layer of carbon deposit.

5119072018-12-03. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Doors Will Not Unlock Using the Key Fob or Central Locking Button. One or more of the doors may not unlock when using the remote key outside the vehicle, or the central locking button inside the car. It is still possible, however, to unlock the door by using the key in the driver's door lock cylinder or by pulling the door handle on the inside of the car. Typically fault codes A6D4 and A6D5 are stored in the Junction Box Electronics (JBE). This is due to a blown fuse in the JBE caused by either: * An excessive amperage draw by one of the door lock actuators, which is commonly attributed to silicone contamination; or * An intermittent, but acceptable, amperage spike slightly above 15A, due to normal variation in the locking system.
0102122018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. "BMW NA has agreed to extend the emissions warranties of the turbocharger's wastegate to: ??8 years or 82,000 miles, whichever occurs first, as determined from the vehicle's original in-service date select the ""Vehicle Comment"" button to display the extended coverage information. The terms of the original New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty and applicable emissions warranty still apply. BMW NA will not provide warranty coverage to any Settlement Class Member's vehicle containing modifications or alterations to the turbocharger or its wastegates (software, hardware or otherwise), or evidencing other conditions not normally covered under the original New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty or applicable emissions warranty. One or more of the following situations may apply: * The safety belt extender extends but the belt slips off. * The ""hand"" on the extender fails. * The safety belt is twisted. * The extender will not operate and makes noise while extending. S One or more of the following causes may apply: 1. The safety belt is incorrectly positioned. 2. The ""hand"" on the extender has mechanically failed. 3. The safety belt slips off the ""hand"" due to excessive resistance from the seat belt reel, not allowing the belt to extend properly. The seat belt is twisted. 4. The safety belt slips off the ""hand"" due to the belt material being excessively worn. 5. The safety belt extender fails to extend or retract intermittently due to FRM (Footwell Module) software. 6. The safety belt extender is noisy or inoperative, due to a communication problem or incorrect power or ground."
6513102018-11-26. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. In all audio modes (radio, CD, AUX-In, etc.), the audio output is distorted. It is more noticeable with high bass and high audio volume settings. 0703142018-11-26. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Diagnosing Stored Fault Codes to Help Avoid Repeat Repair Visits. Analysis of FASTA data and repeat repair visit reports indicates that there are many fault codes that are stored in the above vehicles, but they are not diagnosed to identify their root cause. Fault codes that are not diagnosed to find their root cause can lead to a repeat repair visit to the workshop by the customer. Where diagnosis (vehicle or short test) with ISTA has already started, it is important to diagnose the fault code(s) listed below (when they are stored in the vehicle) during the current workshop visit. This will help lead to a reduction in workshop repeat repair visits and higher customer satisfaction.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
