Service bulletins for the 2014 Audi Q5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

A171347 2035463-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 13-44 dated October 22, 2013. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine, and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owner?s Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, and the ambient temperature and road conditions. Additional factors include the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. Utilizing the advanced sensor technology integrated in models equipped with the 3.0 TFSI engine, it is possible to measure oil consumption electronically via a Guided Function test plan. If the electronic oil consumption test is not available for this model, perform the test with the conventional scale/oil weighing method. See TSB 2018550 for instructions for the conventional scale/oil weighing method.

Audi Lane Change Assistant deactivates or is sporadically inoperative when the vehicle is driven in slow-moving stop-and-go traffic, especially on roads with multiple lanes. The message "Audi side assist unavailable: Sensors blocked" appears in the driver information system. The system is able to be activated approximately ten minutes after the traffic condition is removed, or after an ignition cycle. DTCs are stored in the Lane Change Assistance control module. Audi Lane Change Assistant can be activated without issue. No obstructions can be found on the outside or inside of bumper. No re-work of the bumper can be found. The control module mounting brackets are securely fastened to the lower rear bumper, and no damage is found on the inside or on the outside rear bumper area. The control module mounting brackets are not broken or loose. In certain normal driving conditions, the Audi Side Assist system can automatically deactivate, and the driver information display shows the "sensors blocked" message. This is normal, as the nature of certain driving conditions can make it difficult for the Audi Side Assist system to track vehicles.

Only vehicles with standard bumpers are affected. S-line (PR number 2K7 or 2K8) and S model (PR number 2K3 or 2K4) bumpers are not affected. A boundary layer between warm and cold air is recognized as an obstacle (e.g., hot exhaust gases in cold weather).
A911317 2035919-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM). GPS inaccuracies can be caused by several different factors. If it is unclear if this PSS applies, submit a Technical Assistance Center ticket for additional instruction. Perform Spec Actual and attach the GFF log to the ticket. Customer states the navigation system is not tracking the vehicle correctly. No DTCs related to the GPS antenna or MMI system are present. The issue occurs after the vehicle is parked overnight or for several hours in a parking garage or other similar enclosed space. A private home garage does not apply. The issue does not occur if the vehicle is parked overnight or for several hours in an open-sky environment. The condition continues for the duration of the drive. The issue only corrects itself with a 3-finger reset or during a vehicle sleep cycle. The vehicle is not a Q7 or A8. If the above conditions apply and the customer vehicle is a Q7 or A8, submit a Technical Assistance Center ticket for additional instruction. Perform Spec Actual and attach the GFF log to the ticket.
A661339 2035673-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR; STRUCTURE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 66 number 13-38 dated November 15, 2013. Customer may report hearing wind noise from the front door area when the vehicle is driven at highway speeds. After diagnosis, it is determined that the source of the wind noise is the exterior rear view mirrors. The two main sources of wind noise from the exterior rear view mirrors are: the seam surrounding the turn signal lamp and the seam at the mirror base. The modifications explained in the Service section of this bulletin will effectively mitigate the wind noise symptom for the customer.
A641331 2027837-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 64 number 13-26 dated June 7, 2013. The customer may report hearing noises when operating the window or noises from inside the door when driving on rough roads. When the window is lowered, it collides with the clip that holds the window guide cable. This causes the clip to open and contact the window during operation, or to rattle when the vehicle is driven on rough roads.
A571398 2035173-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 57 number 13-96 dated October 16, 2013. The vehicle can still be unlocked while it is being driven, at any time, with the central locking switch in the door.
A481356 2036032-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. STEERING. The customer states that the steering feels stiff during turning. The condition occurs when the vehicle is stationary. The steering shaft needs to be updated.

Wheel bolt requires torque adjustment. Torque sticks, torque extension bars, and impact guns/wrenches are not approved by Audi of America, Inc., and should not be used to apply torque to wheel bolts. Always use a calibrated torque wrench to attain the correct wheel bolt torque and follow the proper wheel tightening procedure as outlined in Elsa. Proper use of a calibrated torque wrench ensures that all wheel bolts are tightened equally and reduces the chances of repeat repairs. Using methods other than a calibrated torque wrench to attain correct wheel bolt torque may lead to problems.
A401337 2035854-2017-10-31. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; SUSPENSION. The customer reports hearing a rattling or knocking noise when the car is driven over bumps or uneven road surfaces. The noise is noticed after the car has been driven for a while and is warmed-up, and when the temperature outside is warm. The condition can be duplicated if the brakes are applied while the car is driven over bumps. High ambient temperatures at the hydraulic guide links cause the noise.
