Service bulletins for the 2009 Audi Q5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

There is an unpleasant, musty odor coming from the heating and ventilation system. The odor usually occurs when the vehicle has been sitting unused for five hours or more. The odor usually occurs within 20 to 60 seconds after the vehicle is started. Condensation, which is a normal condition in all A/C systems, can cause a musty odor.
A661554 2025323-2017-10-27. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 66 number 12-20 dated April 9, 2012. A loud noise is heard when the outside mirrors are folded in or out. The noise originates in the metal spring inside the hinge area of the mirror housing. This spring is used for stabilizing the mirror when the vehicle is driven over rough roads to minimize mirror glass shake. When the mirror housing is folded in or out, the spring must turn or twist with the movement of the housing. The bottom and the top of the spring sit on a plastic base and due to increased friction at these contact points, the spring will skip along the plastic base during the folding operation and creates the noise. The normal functionality of the mirror is not affected.

A661552 2035673-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 66 number 15-50 dated April 10, 2015. Customer may report hearing wind noise from the front door area when the vehicle is driven at highway speeds. After diagnosis, it is determined that the source of the wind noise is the exterior rear view mirrors. Throughout the development of the Audi Q5 and Audi Q7, various features have been added to the exterior rear view mirrors. The added features include the turn signal lamp, side assist lamp, perimeter lamp, etc. As the complexity of the exterior rear view mirror increases, the mirrors become more susceptible to wind noise. The two main sources of wind noise from the exterior rear view mirrors are: the seam surrounding the turn signal lamp and the seam at the mirror base. The modifications explained in the Service section of this bulletin will effectively mitigate the wind noise symptom for the customer.
A661550 2035673-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY; VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 66 number 13-39 dated December 9, 2013. A squealing, howling, or whistling noise may be heard coming from under the vehicle. The condition is typically noticed when the vehicle is cold (normally below freezing) and is moving at speeds of 5 - 60 mph. The noise is from the intermediate bearing of the propeller shaft.
A171560 2027731-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 15-54 dated January 29, 2015. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owner's Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Additional factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. Under certain driving conditions, internal engine pressure conditions in the 2.0 TFSI engine can negatively influence the rate of oil consumption. This condition can occur while the vehicle is operated in metro driving conditions.
A911579 2038824-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 14-69 dated November 4, 2014. The following message appears on the MMI display: "Device or cable type not supported". The AMI cable being used is a genuine Audi-branded cable with an Audi part number (see Required Parts and Tools for a list of valid part numbers). The "Device or cable type not supported" message may be displayed when an incorrect AMI cable type is connected to the MMI system. Only cables with an Audi part number (i.e., 4F0.XXX.XXX) are supported by the MMI system. Volkswagen-branded cables look similar, but are not guaranteed to work with Audi MMI systems. The label on the end of an Audi-branded cable has an Audi logo and Audi part number. Audi-branded cables have unique firmware inside the hardware that can determine which MMI system and iOS device are connected to the cable. Volkswagen cables do not have this firmware. The firmware is required to allow the system to function normally due to the different technology available in the different MMI systems and in the different iPhones and iPod Touch devices. In addition, the AMI system was designed to play the music stored locally on the connected device only. Music streaming (from Spotify or Pandora, for example) is not supported, and music stored in the cloud (on Google Play, Amazon Prime, or iTunes Match/iCloud, for example) may drop out, pause, and skip when played.
A911578 2011500-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 08-129 dated November 12, 2008. A481565 2034351-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. STEERING:COLUMN; STEERING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 48 number 14-57 dated January 29, 2014. Customer may report hearing creaking or squeaking noise from the steering column when steering slowly (the noise can be duplicated while the vehicle is stationary if the steering wheel is turned slowly). The noise may get louder at higher temperatures or when the vehicle is driven for a longer period of time. The noise comes from the sealing sleeve/steering column opening on the bulkhead. Insufficient lubrication of the intermediate steering shaft in the area of the sealing sleeve.

A101511 2018288-2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 10 number 13-10 dated September 5, 2013. Prior to engine replacement, any debris lodged in transferred assemblies must be removed. If the engine experienced a serious mechanical problem, it is possible that small pieces of metal debris resulting from the mechanical problem may have become deposited in the intake manifold, air intake hoses, exhaust manifolds, exhaust down-pipes, turbocharger, supercharger, and/or intercooler. If these metal debris pieces are not removed prior to the installation and operation of the replacement engine, they could be drawn into the combustion chamber, which can cause a knocking noise and subsequent serious engine damage.
