What is wrong

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2016 - 2021 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and G-Class vehicles. Please refer to the Part 573 report for specific vehicle model details. The software design of the communication module may fail to communicate the correct vehicle location for the emergency call system (eCall) in the event of a crash.

What can happen

Failure of the eCall system may result in emergency responders being dispatched to the wrong location, increasing the risk of injury following a crash.

The remedy

MBUSA will notify owners, and the communication module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. The recall began March 12, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2021020025.

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY20-23 A-Class, C-Class, CLA, CLS, E-Class, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, AMG GT, S-Class (177, 205, 118, 257, 213, 238, 247, 253, 167, 290, 217, 222 platform) vehicles, the communication module system software does not correspond with the latest series production configuration. The communication module will receive an OTA update to improve the system stability and allow for better accessibility of Mercedes me services. MBUSA will conduct an OTA service campaign. Remote software updates are automatically downloaded and installed in the customer’s vehicle free of charge and do not require a dealer visit. All customers have been mailed a letter informing them of this OTA software update.
NCU-HU SW Update2023-09-01. Service bulletin. Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2018-2023 C-Class, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, EQS SUV, GLC, GLE and S-Class (206, 295, 294, 297, 296, 254, 167 and 223 platform) vehicles, the communication module software does not correspond with the latest series production configuration. The update is free of charge and will be carried out in the background. The installation will eliminate software errors for a better entertainment experience. The update will show after the ignition has been cycled. MBUSA will conduct an OTA service campaign. A workshop visit for the customer is not required since remote software updates are automatically downloaded and installed in the customer’s vehicle. The OTA may be validated as successful on the customer’s Mercedes Me connect app under “Over-the-Air Vehicle Updates” as “Update for the communication module”. If the OTA is successful it will show a green “installed” and date of installation in the Over-the-Air update section.

NCU-20200800052020-09-21. Service bulletin. Mercedes-Benz AG ("MBAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz, has determined that on certain MY19-20 C-Class, GLC-Class, and AMG GT (205, 253, and 290 platform) vehicles, the software for the AMG drive unit control unit does not correspond to the current series production configuration. As a result, noise may occur from the engine mounts. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the software as necessary.

The check engine indicator light in the instrument cluster may be illuminated with one of the following fault codes: P261029, P02FF85, or P02FF02 stored in the engine control unit (N3/10). The time in instrument cluster is implausible due to an internal reset. If no other complaints exist then check for and perform any available software updates for the following control units: - Motor electronics (N3/10) - Powertrain control unit (N127) - Instrument cluster (A1) If all three control units have the latest software installed and the complaint continues to occur then proceed with replacement of the instrument cluster (A1) Should the complaint re-occur after the instrument cluster has been replaced then open a PTSS case with the following information: - Control units logs for the ME, PTCU, and IC - Initial quick test
