What is wrong

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Edge, Transit Connect and Lincoln MKX and 2020 Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles. The start/stop accumulator endcap may have missing or loose bolts.

What can happen

Missing or loose bolts on the start stop accumulator endcap could result in a transmission fluid leak and may progress to a loss of transmission function. A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire.

The remedy

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the start/stop accumulator, free of charge. The recall began September 23, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S49.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
TSB 23-23082023-11-02. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2023 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles may exhibit a moan noise when the vehicle is driven in reverse (R) in cold weather and/or high humidity. This may be due to the suspension sensitivity of the vehicle. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the standard and reinforced rear caliper bushings and apply Kluberpaste to the machined surfaces of the brake caliper and caliper support bracket.
TSB 22-21692022-05-12. Service bulletin. Some Escape 2020-2022 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and 2021-2022 Corsair PHEV may exhibit a 12-volt battery discharged while the vehicle is plugged in during the high voltage battery charging and/or inoperative level 2 charger (220/240 volts) at customers residence but charging performance operates as intended at a dealership or other locations. This may be due to the software in the battery charger control module (BCCM) (also known as secondary on-board diagnostic module (SOBDM)) and/or differences in local electrical power grids for the level 2 charger. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the powertrain control module (PCM).
TSB 22-21472022-04-26. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Escape and 2021 Corsair vehicles equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) or 2.5L plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain may exhibit a no crank/no start condition due to the passive anti-theft system (PATS) immobilizer being enabled. This may be more prevalent after a vehicle service/repair. This may be due to software that renders the inverter system controller (ISC) (also known as secondary on-board diagnostic module C (SOBDMC)) inoperable when a vehicle repair requires a PATS update. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the powertrain control module (PCM).
SSM 505482022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2022 Maverick and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit an idle surge and/or rough idle with high temperature in the catalytic convertor and sulfur odor in the cab. This may be due to the software installed in the powertrain control module (PCM). This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently developing a software update that is expected in the last week of March 2022. Once the software update is available, contact the customer and schedule a follow-up appointment for repair. Monitor OASIS for updates.
21B682022-01-03. Service bulletin. Certain 2020-2021 Model Year Escape 2.5L HEV PHEV Vehicles Reprogram Powertrain Control Module (PCM) In some of the affected vehicles, it may be possible that the TMAP (Temperature Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor may ice over while driving in cold temperatures for extended periods of time. An iced over TMAP sensor may cause the check engine light to illuminate with diagnostic codes P1A0C, P2282, or P0106 in the PCM (powertrain control module). These codes may lead to the PCM disabling the engine and a Stop Safely Now message appearing in the instrument cluster
TSB 21-23892021-12-02. Service bulletin. Some 2019-2021 Edge/Nautilus vehicles built on or before 11-Mar-2021 and equipped with a 8F35 transmission may exhibit a shudder/buck/jerk while driving up to 35 mph (57 km/h). This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to reprogram the PCM and the transmission solenoid strategy.
TSB 21-23402021-11-02. Service bulletin. Some 2019 Edge/Nautilus vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine built on or before 22-Aug-2019 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P04DB stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to various strategies within the PCM software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the crankcase ventilation tube assembly and reprogram the PCM.
SSM 502122021-10-29. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Corsair vehicles built on or before 03-Mar-2021 with the 8F40 transmission may have a torque converter clutch that will not release/unlock at below 5 mph (8 km/h). This may be due to an internal issue with the torque converter clutch (TCC). If this condition is present, install a new torque converter assembly. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01. For claiming, use causal part 7902 and applicable labor operations in Section 7 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 498212021-06-01. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
TSB 20-23662020-11-05. Service bulletin. Some 2020 Escape front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine and an 8F24 transmission built on 09-Jun-2020 and through 02-Oct-2020 may exhibit a harsh engagement into DRIVE and/or harsh 6-5 or 4-3 downshifts. This may be due to various strategies within the powertrain control module (PCM) software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.
