Recalls that may apply to the 2000 Western Star 4900
A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups.

| 03V227000 | 2003-06-17. TRAILER HITCHES:FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY. ON CERTAIN TRUCK TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH JOST INTERNATIONAL JSK 37U SERIES FIFTH WHEELS, A FATIGUE CRACK CAN DEVELOP IN THE BRACKET PIN WELD UNDER CERTAIN LOADING CONDITIONS. Built 1999-09-03 to 2003-04-14. |
|---|---|
| 03V112000 | 2003-03-21. SUSPENSION:FRONT:HUB. ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH TRUCK HUB UNITS MANUFACTURED BY SKF EXCLUSIVELY FOR USE ON ARVINMERITOR'S FF98X SERIES NON-DRIVE STEER AXLES, THE HUB UNIT BEARINGS CAN WEAR PREMATURELY. Built 1998-08-01 to 2001-02-28. |
| 01V387000 | 2001-12-17. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES. ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH CATERPILLAR 3406E AND C-15 ENGINES, INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE AND STUD MOUNTING ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) TO THE ENGINE EXISTS. CHAFING CAN WEAR THROUGH THE BATTERY CABLE INSULATION TO ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE BATTERY CABLE AND THE STUD. Built 1998-12-01 to 2000-02-10. |
| 01V167002 | 2001-05-14. SUSPENSION. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH CHALMERS 1000 AND 800 SERIES SUSPENSION KITS. THESE SUSPENSION KITS MAY HAVE INSUFFICIENT PENETRATION OF THE WELD ATTACHING THE TORQUE ROD EYE TO THE TORQUE ROD TUBE. Built 2000-05-08 to 2000-10-06. |
| 2005320 | 2005-10-18. Fuel System. On certain vehicles fitted with optional in-cab batteries, fuel lines may contact the cab power harness, resulting in chafe damage that could present a fire hazard. Correction: Dealers will reroute and secure the fuel lines. |
|---|---|
| 2003179 | 2003-07-29. Suspension. On certain vehicles, manufacturing defects in the front axle unitized hubs may cause premature spalling of the wheel bearings. This condition will lead to eventual breakdown of the bearing and potential loss of vehicle control amidst the presence of warning signals such as activation of ABS warning light, steering wheel vibration, brake drag, noise and vehicle pull. Correction: Dealer will replace both front wheel hubs. |
| 2003158 | 2003-06-19. Other. On certain vehicles, fatigue cracks can initiate in the weld joining the bracket pin to its mounting flange on the fifth wheel assembly. Weld failures could lead to the loss of the pin and the potential separation of the fifth wheel top plate from its mounting structure without warning. Correction: Dealers will replace the bracket pins. |
| 2002197 | 2002-11-01. Steering. The TRW tie rod and drag link ball stud ends contain bearings that are below the specified case depth and/or hardness. This can lead to premature wear out and a possible separation of the ball stud from the socket and loss of steering control. Correction: All affected tie rods and drag links with different design ends will be replaced. |
| 2002064 | 2002-04-04. Electrical. On certain trucks the positive battery cable routing past the ECM may allow the cable to chafe against the ECM mounting stud. Chafing may wear through the protective loom and battery cable insulation to allow contact between the cable and the stud. This contact would provide a short circuit which may cause a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace and/or reroute the cables. |
| 2001133 | 2001-05-10. Suspension. Certain trucks equipped with Chalmers suspensions may suffer torque rod eye to tube weld failure which may cause a lack of vehicle control. Correction: Dealers will replace the torque rods. |
A campaign lists a year, a make and a model, and often only some of the vehicles built. A list with nothing on it is not a clearance either. The lookups below check one VIN.
