Service bulletins for the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| Campaign Circula | 2019-04-08. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Emissions Recall Circular (2.0 Liter Gasoline Engine Vehicles Reprogramming of Engine Control Module and Replacement of Malfunctioning Oxygen Sensor): Volkswagen has found that the oxygen sensor in the upper part of the exhaust system could fail under certain conditions, potentially causing a vehicle to exceed Federal and/or California emission standards, or to experience increased fuel consumption. ?Thermal shock? within the sensor caused by moisture accumulation could cause oxygen sensor failure. If the oxygen sensor fails, the vehicle?s "check engine" light on the dashboard will illuminate. The corrective action taken for this issue was to Check the emission control system for proper function, reset electronically the engine?s control module and replace the oxygen sensor, if necessary. |
| Campaign Circula | 2019-04-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Emissions Service Action Circular (VR6 Engine Update ECM Software for Catalytic Converter Monitoring System): The ECM software for the catalytic converter monitoring system is too sensitive. This can cause the MIL to come on, and some vehicles may exceed Federal and/or California emissions standards. Also, in some cases this leads to unnecessary catalytic converter replacement. The corrective action taken for this issue was to Update ECM software. |
