Service bulletins for the 2020 Toyota Highlander

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Customer retention and proper maintenance of vehicles are and have always been a major focus for Toyota. To help remind customers that regular service is essential to the proper maintenance of the vehicle, dealers are required to install a service reminder sticker before delivery. By doing this, customers will be reminded to return to your dealership for service. Your current service reminder sticker may be used. (See PDS Check Sheet ?Final Inspection and Cleaning.?) A new PDS Check Sheet has been developed for the 2020 model year Highlander and Highlander HV. Some check points have been added, expanded, or clarified.

The initialization procedure requires between 3 and 15 minutes to complete, depending on file size, cellular connection speed, and other factors. Connection to a wireless network is recommended for optimal functionality when downloading software via a smartphone. Download the latest Entune? 3.0 smartphone app on a smartphone. Following the initialization procedure, individual Entune? 3.0 apps may periodically update through an over-the-air update system. Updates are optional or mandatory. To prevent the auxiliary battery from becoming discharged during storage, proper maintenance is necessary. Perform the following maintenance service for the HV battery and auxiliary battery. NOTE ? BEFORE disconnecting the auxiliary battery, confirm the shift lever is in the ?P? position and apply the parking brake completely. The shift lever CANNOT be shifted from the ?P? position with the auxiliary battery disconnected. ? T-SB-0007-19_Rev2020-02-18. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. TSB: REVISION NOTICE January 24, 2020 Rev1: ? The entire bulletin has been updated. Any previous printed versions of this bulletin should be discarded. A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions that can reduce its performance and service life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are required in order to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life. As a matter of policy, Toyota does not provide battery warranty coverage for discharged and/or failed batteries due to lack of maintenance. It is the dealer?s responsibility to maintain the specified State-Of-Charge (SOC) of the vehicle?s battery while in stock and ensure proper SOC at delivery. To eliminate customer service concerns due to an undercharged battery during the first few weeks of ownership, ALL dealers should check battery SOC and recharge, if necessary, no more than 48 hours before to customer delivery.

T-SB-0047-19_Rev2020-01-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. TSB: REVISION NOTICE December 13, 2019 Rev1: ? Applicability has been updated to include several 2020 model year Toyota vehicles. ? The Required Tools & Equipment section has been updated. Any previous printed versions of this bulletin should be discarded. Some 2018 ? 2020 model year Toyota vehicles equipped with a Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation System require a Special Service Tool (SST) USB flash drive to update the map, points of interest, and system software. The SST is used with applicable vehicles to deliver the update; however, the process for generating license keys differs from previous generations. Before attempting to perform a map update, the head unit?s expiration date must be checked. If the expiration date is still valid, a license key may be generated without the use of an activation card number. Updating the maps without the use of an activation card number is considered an Embedded Navigation Update (refer to pg. 9) and performing this process does not extend the duration of telematic map services. If the head unit?s expiration date is expired, or is expiring within the next 90 days, it should be recommended to the customer to purchase an activation number. Utilizing an activation number will initiate a Dynamic Navigation Update (refer to pg. 3). This Dynamic Navigation Update will perform the Embedded Navigation Update and provide telematic map services for a period of two years from the day that the Dynamic Navigation Update is performed. Activation card numbers are provided in an activation card number pamphlet available through the normal parts ordering system. Follow the process in this bulletin to perform the update.

TT: Safety Connect is a vehicle option which requires a subscription fee for the system to be active after the initial trial period. Once the subscription has expired the DCM (Telematics Transceiver) will be in an inactive state. In some instances, a DCM may need to be replaced even though the customer is not using the service. If registration of the replacement DCM part is attempted using the Techstream utility after the account has become inactive, the registration will fail, and messages such as ?ATX webserver is Down? or ?ATX error? will be displayed.

Any previous printed versions of this bulletin should be discarded. 2020 model year Toyota vehicles are equipped with driver side floor mat retainers to secure the floor mat in the correct position. In addition, some models may also utilize retainers for passenger side and rear seat floor mats. During Pre-Delivery Service (PDS), follow the appropriate Installation Procedure to attach the driver side, and if applicable, the passenger side and rear seat floor mats to the vehicle carpet using the floor mat retainers. If installation instructions are included in the floor mat kit, place the instructions in the vehicle?s glove box for customer reference. CAUTION ? ALWAYS verify the floor mat is designed specifically for the model and model year it is being installed in. ? ONLY use floor mats that can be secured using the retainers. ALL OEM Toyota floor mats are specifically designed to fit correctly and be secured using the retainers. ? Make sure the floor mat is properly placed on the vehicle carpet and secured with the retainers. If the driver side floor mat is NOT properly placed and secured, it could slip and interfere with the movement of the pedals during driving and may cause an accident. ? Verify the operation of the accelerator, brake, and clutch (if equipped) pedals and clearance to the mat. ? NEVER install more than one floor mat at a time in the driver?s seating position. ? If applicable, ANY secondary set of floor mats (based upon customer preference, such as the all-weather floor mats or other floor mats) MUST be placed in the trunk with ALL the packaging material intact.
