2020-04-07. Lights And Instruments. Issue: On certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (ABS) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the ABS is not working properly. Note: This problem would also cause the traction control (TC) and electronic stability control (ESC) lights not to turn on. Safety Risk: If a driver is not warned that the ABS is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the software for the cab control module (CECU).
|---|---|
2015-03-05. Label. Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120 - Tire Selection and Rims. The tire information label may indicate incorrect tire pressure, understated by 5 PSI, or a tire/rim/inflation pressure combination for which the maximum GAWR is slightly below the GAWR of the vehicle. Underinflated tires may not be capable of supporting the maximum load as reflected by the GAWR and GVWR specified on the certification label, which could cause tire failure resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Manufacturer will mail new tire and rims certification label.
2014-03-25. Brakes. Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Air Brake Systems. Incorrect brake linings were used on front drum brake assemblies fitted with large diameter tires (Static Load Radius of 20.5" - 21.5"), rendering the vehicles noncompliant to the standard. This could result in inadequate braking, increasing stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install new brake shoes with the correct linings.
2011-07-21. Powertrain. On certain trucks equipped with a PACCAR MX engine and Eaton Ultrashift DM or Allison automatic transmission (without auto-neutral), the Fast Idle Control (also known as high idle) may be activated by the operator while the transmission is in gear. This could override the parking brake, allowing the vehicle to move unexpectedly. Unintended vehicle movement could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will update the engine control software.
2011-02-25. Engine. On certain vehicles equipped with a PACCAR MX engine, the oil module centrifugal spinner filter cap may become loose, possibly allowing the cap to come off and engine oil to partially discharge from the oil module onto nearby exhaust components. The discharge of engine oil onto hot exhaust components could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will re-torque the oil module filter cap and install a secondary retention device on the secondary centrifugal spinner filter cap.
2010-12-13. Powertrain. On certain vehicles, the bearing surfaces of the extended lube universal joint that attaches the inter-axle driveline to the drive axle may become prematurely worn due to breakdown of the lubrification and/or excessive heat. Prematurely worn bearing surfaces may result in the u-joint becoming loose and/or binding. If undetected, the condition may result in universal joint failure, allowing the inter-axle driveline to detach from the axle, which may cause the vehicle to become disabled in the roadway. Lost propulsion, in conjunction with traffic, road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. In addition a driveline component separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the interaxle driveline universal joint.
2008-09-24. Other. On certain trucks, the inadequate stiffness of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) bracket could result in the separation of the DPF from the chassis, which could result in personal injuries or death to motorists or bystanders. Correction: Caterpillar dealers will replace bracket as necessary.
2008-02-12. Other. On certain vehicles, the door latch may have been manufactured incorrectly. If the latch rotor cracks, the latch would not have primary or secondary closing security. Attempting to drive a vehicle with a door in the unlatched position can result in increased risk of injury to an unbelted front seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the latch assemblies.
2008-01-18. Fuel System. On certain trucks, fuel line fittings on the Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) may crack and leak fuel during a regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter. This could result in a vehicle fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel line with an updated version that has fittings able to accommodate higher tightening torque.
2008-01-07. Brakes. Certain vehicles fail to comply with requirements of CMVSS 121 - Air Brake System. The air lines were incorrectly constructed with only four layers of extruded nylon material, instead of the specified five layers. Should the air lines develop a leak, while the vehicle is in motion, it could cause the air brake system to fail, which would engage the rear spring brakes, slowing the vehicle to a stop, and preventing it from being driven. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the air lines.
2007-12-18. Steering. On certain trucks, an incorrectly manufactured steering gear sector shaft may cause the steering to "stick or bind". This could severely restrict the steering turning angle, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash with injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the steering gear assembly.
2007-09-06. Fuel System. On certain trucks, the fuel tank's longitudinal seams may have been fabricated using an incorrect weld speed for the given material thickness. This error resulted in a weld which did not completely penetrate the entire material thickness. Fuel tanks possessing this defect could leak diesel fuel in the event of a vehicle crash. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace any defective fuel tank.
2007-03-20. Other. On certain trucks, the axle housing may have been manufactured with steel that was out of specification (9.5mm thick instead of 11mm thick), which could result in a fatigue failure over time. If failure occurs, the axle may lock-up or the end of the axle could come off, which may result in a vehicle crash with injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the axles.
2006-12-21. Suspension. On certain trucks, components used to attach the air suspension to the axle may contain elevated amounts of copper. The elevated copper content could result in component failure, which could cause erratic vehicle handling and a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace any suspect part with an updated version made with the correct metallurgical composition.
