Service bulletins for the 2019 Mazda MX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Some vehicles may have one of the following DTCs stored in memory: C1001:92 - Forward sensing camera (FSC) poor field of view. B14F0:92 - General temporary failure in forward sensing camera (FSC). DTC C1001:92 or B14F0:92 set as a past record for low visibility of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). It does not mean there is an actual FSC defect. In some cases the customer may have a concern with the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and/or High Beam Control system (HBC). In other cases this DTC might be found without a related customer concern.NOTE: Instrument Cluster Multi-Information Display Warning Messages vary depending on vehicle year/model. See the Owner's Manual for details. If the vehicle has this DTC, DO NOT replace the FSC. Read below.

Some vehicles may experience the symptoms mentioned below, which can be fixed with the latest software update (Version 70.00.335C or later). NOTE:For 2016 CX-9 with version earlier than 59.00.441, the tachometer function will be removed from the Active Driving Display as part of Mazda’s continuing efforts to improve safety and reduce driver distraction. Please explain this to the customer before updating the software. If the customer agrees, turn off the tachometer display on the AD-Display tab in MAZDA CONNECT Settings before performing the update. NOTE: If the customer has customized MAZDA CONNECT with something like a different background using unauthorized software, make sure they know the following information before updating MAZDA CONNECT to avoid any issues later on. Updating MAZDA CONNECT to the latest version will erase any customization created by unauthorized software.Unauthorized customization software will not work on the latest version of MAZDA CONNECT software. The latest version of MAZDA CONNECT software cannot be rolled back to an earlier version. Mazda does not recommend unauthorized customization of MAZDA CONNECT due to the possibility of unexpected problems. Any issues related to this will not be covered under Mazda warranty policy.
SA-006-19a2019-05-30. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may complain about a MAZDA CONNECT system reboot or blank screen. Use the flowchart below to repair the vehicle.
09-019-19-35922019-05-03. Service bulletin. SEATS; STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may exhibit scratches (1) on the rear of the seat back bar garnish (2) from contact with the convertible top (3). Due to assembly variations, the clearance between the seat back bar garnish and the convertible top is too small on some vehicles. On later 2016 models (starting with VINs JM1ND******117681), the link stopper of the convertible top has been changed to adjust the opening angle and folding position of the convertible top. This increased the gap between the seat back bar garnish and the convertible top when folded down. On these later models, the issue seems to occur if the customer does not completely lock the convertible top down when lowered. NOTE: Make the customer aware that the top needs to be completely locked down when lowered to prevent this from happening. With the convertible top lowered, press down on both the front and rear areas of the top (as shown with the arrows) until a latch sound is heard and the top does not pop up.
SA-016-192019-04-25. Service bulletin. WHEELS; SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING. There have been warranty claims submitted for noise in differentials, transfer units and transmissions where the source of the noise was a wheel bearing. This misdiagnosis can lead to multiple repair attempts, warranty debits, and additional inconvenience and/or cost to the customer. To reduce the chance of this occurring, please follow the steps outlined in the repair procedure.

09-013-19-35802019-03-20. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:ANTI-THEFT DEVICES. On certain subject vehicles, it is possible that the panic alarm system may activate while driving, and the horn may sound intermittently and hazard warning lights may flash. The panic alarm concern will stop after cycling the ignition switch off, then on again. No DTCs are stored. Some TPMS wheel sensor IDs on the concerned vehicle or other vehicles nearby may cause the error in the body control module (BCM). Air pressure data transmitted from the wheel sensors may be recognized by the BCM as if the panic button on the remote transmitter has been pressed.
09-003-19-3555a2019-03-20. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TAIL LIGHTS. Some customers may complain of condensation/fog inside the front (headlamp/headlight) or rear (taillamp/taillight) combination lights. The recent new models have been fitted with a clear lens which can cause the symptom to be more noticeable, however, it does not affect the performance of the light. This condensation/fog is a natural phenomenon that occurs when there is a fairly large temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the light housing. It is normal for very small water drops to appear in certain locations on the light units where the air is stagnant (condensation), making the lens look whitish (fog). This happens mostly in the corners and narrow spaces, and will typically clear during warmer ambient temperatures, or when the lights have been on for some time.
MSP532019-03-20. Service bulletin. TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:ANTI-THEFT DEVICES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Subject: Mazda Service Program (MSP) 53. 2019 CX-3 & 2018-2019 MX-5 With Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Panic Alarm System Activates While Driving. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Mazda Service Program (MSP) on certain 2019 CX-3 vehicles produced from February 27, 2018 through October 12, 2018 and 2018-2019 MX-5 vehicles produced from October 3, 2017 through October 15, 2018. On certain subject vehicles equipped with Direct TPMS (TPMS wheel sensor is directly mounted on each wheel), it is possible that the panic alarm system may activate while driving, and the horn may sound intermittently, and hazard warning lights may flash. The panic alarm concern will stop after cycling the ignition switch off, then on again. No DTCs are stored. Action Required: Beginning today, reprogram the body control module (BCM) to the latest calibration using MMDS for all affected CX-3 and MX-5 vehicles in dealer inventory, and when customers bring their vehicles for maintenance, or other service/warranty work. The subject vehicles must not be delivered to customers until the repair of MSP53 is completed. Please inform the customer that the BCM will be reprogrammed to the latest calibration, free of charge. If a vehicle is sold with an open MSP53 your Step 3 PDI warranty claim will be subject to debit.

09-011-19-35672019-03-11. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR; VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR. Some vehicles may exhibit rust (A) on the front door quarter glass guide (B) where it contacts the door beltline molding (C). The paint on the quarter glass guide gets damaged from vibration when the door is closed and when driving. This concern is caused by the beltline molding contacting the quarter glass guide due to production variances. To correct this concern, a spacer has been attached at the contact area to assure an appropriate clearance between the beltline molding and the quarter glass guide.
MT-012-182019-03-04. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY; STEERING. If a vehicle has body vibration or steering wheel shimmy while driving and the root cause is determined to be tire balance, re-balance the tires using a Hunter GSP9700 or equivalent balance machine. If your dealer does not have a GSP9700 or equivalent balance machine, sublet the vehicle out for repair. To find the location of a GSP9700 near your dealer, visit Hunter?s web site at www.gsp9700.com and click on ?Locate a GSP9700 Road Force Balancer.?
MT-002-182019-03-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may complain about improper operation of the MAZDA CONNECT system when streaming music with audio source aha/Pandora/Stitcher/Bluetooth® and the same device is also connected to the USB port for charging. The concerns may include: Blank Screen and/or No Audio Sound, Phone will not charge.Blank Screen and/or No Audio Sound These concerns may be caused by:The MAZDA CONNECT system has reached its capacity limits when streaming music with audio source aha/Pandora/Stitcher/Bluetooth® and also connected to the USB port. The MAZDA CONNECT system has reached its capacity limits when the customer's USB device capacity exceeds 16 GB (e.g. 64 GB iPhone X). The MAZDA CONNECT system USB port capacity is 16 GB (FAT32).Mazda recommends not to connect any devices to the USB port when streaming music with audio source aha/Pandora/Stitcher/Bluetooth®. When streaming music with audio source aha/Pandora/Stitcher/Bluetooth® (without USB connection), the Connectivity Master Unit (CMU) is able to process Bluetooth® digital data (A) and output audio sound and display Bluetooth® audio information. If the same device is connected to the USB port for charging, the CMU processes both Bluetooth® digital data (A) and USB digital data (B) from the same device at the same time. In this case, CMU resources may be exceeded, causing a Blank Screen and/or No Audio Sound.
09-009-19-35662019-02-19. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer's responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometer and related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the "Speedometer Replacement Label". Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda's vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO's services, it is possible that the odometer will be set between 10 to 31 miles over the odometer mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs. Please make sure that the customer is aware that there may be a slight variance to the odometer, in which case the customer may have to accept the slightly higher mileage. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after-warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.
09-008-19-35652019-02-19. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may experience stains appearing on the hood, roof and/or trunk of the vehicle. This concern is most likely to be found in cold weather areas just after the RAPGARD is removed at PDI. This may be caused by moisture which has been trapped and condensed between the paint and the RAPGARD. These types of stains can be removed with a heat gun or an infrared drier. If you encounter this concern during PDI, use a heat gun or an infrared drier to apply heat to the affected area to remove the stain(s).
