Service bulletins for the 2019 Mazda CX-9

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SA-011/24 02/12/24, 06/06/24, 07/29/24 DESCRIPTION Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle-specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers. SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE Refer to the applicable Workshop Manual or Owner's Manual for vehicle -specific manufacturer scheduled maintenance. Workshop Manual - Refer to section 00-00 SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. Owner's Manual - Refer to section 8 Maintenance and Care. b. Note: Please refer to the information below outlining the services not included in Mazda's Factory Scheduled Maintenance: IMPORTANT: Recommending fluid flushes when not necessary can lead to customer confusion and dissatisfaction. Fluid flushing for preventive maintenance purposes is strongly discouraged, unless otherwise specified in a published procedure (Owner’s Manual, Workshop Manual, Technical Service Bulletin, etc.).

04-005-222023-01-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Front Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit a click noise when first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR when first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. This is caused by deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Front Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles may exhibit the brakes having an unusual noise or vibration when applying the brake. This is caused by rust on the brake disc plate’s surface. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 1: Some vehicles may exhibit grooves in rear brake disc plate(s). This concern is mostly found on new or low mileage vehicles, when the brakes are new. The grooves may be caused through abrasion from the accumulation of metal particles from the rear brake disc plates. The metal particles get caught between the brake pads and disc plates causing groove damage. To eliminate this concern, the disc plate surface honing process has been changed to reduce metal particle formation. Rear Brake Noise Symptom 2: Some vehicles equipped with an electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. This may be caused by the rear brake pads not having the capability to remove the rust from the rear brake discs. This is caused by rust on the brake disc plate’s surface. NOTE: The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise.
SA-078-222023-01-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles exhibit brake related concerns such as brake noise, brake judder or brake dragging. If you encounter a customer complaint for any one of these symptoms, refer to the following information to understand why symptoms may occur, and to better assist the customer in resolving their specific brake concern.
04-001/222022-04-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit a click or squeak noise from the front brakes under the following conditions: 2016-2022 CX-9 2018-2022 CX-5 (Click noise): 1. When first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR 2. When first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. Cause: Due to deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Mass-Production Change: None 2016-2018 CX-9 (Squeak noise): During light braking. Cause: Occurs when the front brake pads have been worn to certain levels. As the pads wear, the chamfer goes away and the grease between the pad and the shim deteriorates. Mass-Production Change: As of Apr. 27, 2018, the chamfer shape of the brake pad was improved to increase durability.
00-001-222022-03-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; STEERING. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers.
04-004-21-38212021-10-02. Service bulletin. PARKING BRAKE:ELECTRICAL; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit: Vehicle body vibration when moving from a stop while using the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) automatic release function. Uneven rear brake pad wear. These concerns may be caused because the automatic EPB caliper release timing is too late for the movement of the vehicle. NOTE: Frequent usage of the EPB automatic release function may promote uneven rear brake pad wear. To eliminate these concerns, the EPB control module logic has been modified.
04-002-21-38092021-06-29. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. Some vehicles equipped with electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. This may be caused by the rear brake pads not having the capability to remove the rust from the rear brake discs. The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise.
04-007-20-3713a2020-12-03. Service bulletin. PARKING BRAKE:ELECTRICAL; SERVICE BRAKES; EQUIPMENT. 15-003-20-3737a2020-11-03. Service bulletin. STEERING; FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE; SERVICE BRAKES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some vehicles may exhibit that the SBS/SCBS warning light (amber) turns ON right after the engine is started with DTC U0420:68 [FSC] (Error signal received from electric power steering (EPS) control module) stored in memory. For Mazda6 and CX-5, the following error messages may appear in the instrument cluster. • Front camera sensor system malfunction • Forward Smart City Brake Support Malfunction • Driver attention alert system malfunction. This may be caused by the battery voltage falling and the EPS control module failing the initial learning for the steering center position while cranking. The FSC detects the error notified by the EPS control module. To correct this concern, the control software of the EPS control module has been modified while the repair procedure modifies the FSC for earlier repairs in the market.
04-007-20-37132020-11-03. Service bulletin. PARKING BRAKE:ELECTRICAL; SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:PADS; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles equipped with electric parking brake (EPB) may exhibit a grinding noise from the rear brakes when braking. The red rust accumulated on the discs is exposed to high temperatures during braking, and consequently the rust turns black. As the black rust is too hard to be removed by the brake pads, the rust progress is accelerated, resulting in the grinding noise. To eliminate this concern, the brake pad material has been changed in order to improve the rust-removing capability.
