Service bulletins for the 2018 Mazda CX-9
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

This may be caused by low or high vehicle battery voltage. |
| MT-001-20 | 2020-08-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. If you encounter any type of electrical concern (e.g, dead battery, engine no start, DTC(s) stored...), interview the customer before proceeding with normal Workshop Manual diagnosis. Aftermarket devices may be the cause of the electrical concern. Ask the customer if any aftermarket devices have been installed. Below are a couple of examples of unusual electrical concerns caused by aftermarket devices. |
| 09-006-20-3673a | 2020-08-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. When encountering a vehicle with paint damage, refer to the "Mazda Paint Warranty Guide" to determine cause, prevention, remedy, and warranty coverage (if applicable). |
| 05-003-20-3725 | 2020-08-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT; ENGINE. Some vehicles may experience the check engine light and automatic transaxle warning light ON with one or more of these DTCs stored in the TCM memory (P0842, P0847, P0872, P0877, P0780, P1738). This is caused by the oil pressure switch A and/or B at the control valve body temporarily or permanently getting stuck due to contamination entering the passage. To correct the problem, some mass production changes have been implemented to reduce contamination and improve the DTC diagnostic logic. |
| SA-053-20 | 2020-07-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. When replacing manual or automatic transmission, make sure to remove the plug from the old transmission (as shown below) and then re-install it to the new transmission with a new washer. The new transmissions (including remanufactured A/T) have a shipping plug, as shown in the figures (M/T: black, rubber made; A/T: pink and black, with breather). This plug is for shipping use only and needs to be removed in order to re-install the original plug from the old transmission. |
| SA-026-20a | 2020-07-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Use the symptom troubleshooting tables below to diagnose MAZDA CONNECT concerns. |
| 09-022-20-3720 | 2020-07-02. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:BUMPERS. Some customers may notice cracks (as shown below) at one or both ends of the front bumper near the front fender / front combination light. This may be caused when driving over bumps. The bumper fascia may receive higher than expected forces, depending on driving manner and road conditions. To eliminate this concern, the internal shape and material of the front bumper fascia has been modified. |
| 09-015-20-3698b | 2020-07-02. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some customers may experience the MAZDA CONNECT rebooting or the screen turning black during cold temperatures. The concern occurs when the interior of the vehicle is cold and disappears when the interior warms up. This is caused by some SD cards for the MAZDA CONNECT navigation system being manufactured with improper hardware, resulting in a data reading error during cold temperatures. To correct the concern, the SD card hardware has been changed. |
| 09-020-20-3680 | 2020-06-02. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some customers may complain that the rear console / cup holder area is warming. The warming is caused by heat radiating from the rear heater core, which is located under the console. The warm air created by the heater core escapes through small gaps and carries heat along the inner walls of rear console / cup holder, causing an increase in temperature. |
| SA-047-20 | 2020-05-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Be aware that some new AWD vehicles have been found with cracked rear differential cases, as shown below. NOTE: This may affect new vehicles just delivered to the dealer or new vehicles in dealer inventory. |
| 09-015-20-3698 | 2020-05-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. |
| SA-041-20 | 2020-04-06. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Some customers may complain about incorrect MAZDA CONNECT clock time. This may be caused by an incorrect clock GPS Sync setting. |
| SA-037-20 | 2020-04-06. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA. Some vehicles may have one of the following DTCs stored in memory: • C1001:92 - Forward sensing camera (FSC) poor field of view • B14F0:92 - General temporary failure in forward sensing camera (FSC) DTC C1001:92 or B14F0:92 set as a past record for low visibility of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). It does not mean there is an actual FSC defect. • In some cases the customer may have a concern with the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and/or High Beam Control system (HBC). • In other cases this DTC might be found without a related customer concern. NOTE: Instrument Cluster Multi-Information Display Warning Messages vary depending on vehicle year/model. See the Owner's Manual for details. |
| SA-036-20 | 2020-04-06. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. The owner’s manual contains procedures and precautions for the maintenance and cleaning of plastic parts, like the brand emblem. However, it is still important to remind customers about these precautions. Customers should never use inadequate, harsh or aggressive cleaning products on plastic parts. CAUTION: Be aware that when cleaning the brand emblem, never use cleaning products that are highly acidic/alkaline detergent, organic solvents or those with aggressive chemical products, otherwise, the brand emblem may become cracked and/or deformed (as shown in the example below). Always refer customers to the owner’s manual for proper cleaning using cold or lukewarm water and a mild, neutral detergent. |
| 04-004-20-3679b | 2020-04-03. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit a click or squeak noise from the front brakes under the following conditions: Click Noise: 1. When first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR 2. When first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. Squeak Noise: During light braking. |
| 04-004-20-3679a | 2020-04-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles may exhibit a click noise from the front brakes under one of the following conditions: • When first moving the vehicle forward or reverse from a stop. • When first applying the brakes while the vehicle is moving forward at slow speeds. Due to deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. |
| 00-001-20-3689 | 2020-04-03. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers. |
| 04-003-20-3668 | 2020-02-29. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles may exhibit grooves (1) in rear brake disc plate(s), as shown below. This concern is mostly found on new or low mileage vehicles, when the brakes are new. The grooves may be caused through abrasion from the accumulation of metal particles from the rear brake disc plates. The metal particles get caught between the brake pads and disc plates causing groove damage. To eliminate this concern, the disc plate surface honing process has been changed to reduce metal particle formation. |
| 02-004-20-3685 | 2020-02-29. Service bulletin. WHEELS. Some automotive cleaning products contain strong acid or alkali. When these types of cleaners are used to clean the wheels on Mazda vehicles, the chemicals contents penetrate the clear coating of the wheel surface and damage the paint under the clear coating. The damaged area has the appearance of dark stains. |
