Service bulletins for the 2016 Mazda CX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Some vehicles may experience a rattle noise from the front door glass when driving with the window open approx. 1/2 to 4 inches (1 - 10 cm). The rattle noise may be caused by insufficient holding force of the glass run channel. To increase the holding force, the shape of glass run channel has been changed and non-woven pads have been attached to the glass run channel.
09-021-18-3459a2018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may experience stains appearing on the hood, roof and/or trunk of the vehicle. This concern is most likely to be found in a cold weather areas just after the RAPGARD is removed at PDI. This may becaused by moisture which has been trapped and condensed between the paint and the RAPGARD. These types of stains can be removed with a heat gun or an infrared drier. If you encounter this concern during PDI, use a heat gun or an infrared drier to apply heat to the affected area to remove the stain(s).

When encountering a vehicle with paint damage, refer to the "Mazda Pocket Paint Guide" to determine cause, prevention, remedy, and warranty coverage (if applicable). Copies of the Mazda Pocket Paint Guide are available for order on Mazda e-Store (part number: 9999-95-MPPG-12).
02-015-18-34992018-10-09. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION:REAR:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS; STRUCTURE. Some vehicles may exhibit a knocking noise from the rear coil spring and/or the vehicle body sits lower in the rear. These symptoms may be caused by a broken rear coil spring at its lower side. This is caused by corrosion from dust between the rear coil spring and the spring sheet, resulting in a broken rear coil spring. To eliminate this concern, the shape of the rear coil spring has been modified.
09-030-18-34842018-09-10. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR. Some customers may complain that the rear door seaming welt (1) comes off when stepping in and/or out of the vehicle. This is caused by the gripping force of the seaming welt being insufficient for frequent usage of the rear seat (vehicle used for ride sharing). No mass production change is planned.
SA-024-182018-07-02. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD. Some customers may complain of a lack of power under heavy load without any warning lights or DTCs. This concern may be due to a loose or detached hood weatherstrip, which can cause a blockage or restriction in the air intake system.

In most cases you will find that the Bulb Seal No. 1 (A) or HID Bulb Seal No. 1 (B) and Bulb Seal No. 2 (C) socket covers have not been correctly installed or are missing due to improper prior repairs (i.e., customer replacing the headlamp bulbs or body shop not transferring them when replacing the headlamp unit(s) due to a collision). Any damage caused by missing socket covers, HID module seal (D), or missing bumper brackets (E) is not covered by warranty policy.

SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A CONDITION IN EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES (BELOW FREEZING) WHERE THE HATCHBACK WILL NOT LATCH (HALF LATCH) WHEN CLOSING. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE TOPPER RUBBER, A COMPONENT OF THE LIFTGATE LATCH AND LOCK ACTUATOR (A), HARDENING WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW FREEZING. THE STOPPER RUBBER HAS NOW BEEN IMPROVED TO ELIMINATE THIS CONCERN.

TO ELIMINATE THIS CONCERN, THE SHAPE OF THE BODY FLANGE HAS BEEN IMPROVED DURING MASS-PRODUCTION TO ALLOW SUF-FICIENT A-PILLAR CLEARANCE.
02-010-16-31702017-05-30. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS; SUSPENSION:FRONT:SHOCK ABSORBER. SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A KNOCKING / SQUEAKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER WHEN DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS AND/OR WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. THE NOISE MAY BE DUE TO:•UPPER FRONT STRUT BEARING (A) DAMAGE. (CX-5 AND MAZDA6)•STICK/SLIP BETWEEN THE FRONT STRUT BEARING AND COIL SPRING. (CX-3, CX-5 AND MAZDA6)•THE BUMP STOPPER (C) MAY BE CONTACTING THE STRUT BEARING WHEN THE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER IS COMPRESSED, CAUSING A POPPING NOISE. (MAZDA6 ONLY)•THE FRONT LOWER ARM BUSHING (D) IS MAKING A STICK-SLIP NOISE IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS. (CX-5 AND MAZDA6)TO ELIMINATE THE NOISE, THE FOLLOWING MASS-PRODUCTION CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE:1. THE MATERIAL AND PRODUCTION METHOD OF THE FRONT STRUT BEARING (A) HAS BEEN CHANGED. (CX-5 AND MAZDA6)2. A PROTECTOR HAS BEEN INSTALLED ONTO THE COIL SPRING. (CX-5 AND MAZDA6)3. THE SHAPE OF THE BUMP STOPPER (C) WILL BE MODIFIED IN THE FUTURE. (MAZDA6 ONLY)4. THE SHAPE OF THE COIL SPRING HAS BEEN CHANGED. (CX-3 ONLY)5. FRICTION OF THE LOWER ARM BUSHING HAS BEEN REDUCED BY ADDING A DRY COATING. (CX-5 AND MAZDA6)NOTE:THE PISTON ROD NUT (B) REQUIRES REPLACEMENT.

THE PAINT MAY BECOME DAMAGED BY WEATHERSTRIP CHAFING CAUSED BY LIFTGATE/TRUNK LID VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. TO ELIMINATE THIS CONCERN ON CX-5, SILICONE IS APPLIED TO THE LIP OF THE WEATHERSTRIP TO REDUCE FRICTION AGAINST THE LIFTGATE.
