SC325_DPSM2025-02-05. Emissions. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS SERVICE CAMPAIGN: DEALER PARTS AND SERVICE MANAGER MEMO (SC325) - This document is the announcement to the dealer Parts and Service managers advising that Kia is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Service Campaign regarding the Auxiliary Electric Water Pump (AEWP) on certain 2023 MY Niro P/HEV, 2023 MY Sportage P/HEV, and 2022-2023 MY Sorento P/HEV vehicles. Kia has become aware that the Auxiliary Electric Water Pump (AEWP) in the subject vehicles may crack internally and allow coolant to intrude into the AEWP circuitry. If coolant enters the AEWP circuitry, the Check Engine light (CEL) may be illuminated. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the active air flap (AAF) warning message can also activate, and coolant may eventually migrate through the wiring harness to the engine room junction block. This may result in a reduction of drive power and may cause the vehicle to release air pollutants which exceed Federal and California standards. These standards were established to protect the public health and welfare from the dangers of air pollution.

While charging using a 240-V AC (“Level 2”) charger, the subject vehicles may experience an interrupted charging session or a lower charging speed due to a degraded electrical connection from exposure to a damaged charging cable connector. Dealers are to update the ‘VCMS’ ECU with improved software to improve charging speeds and reduce interrupted charging sessions.

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: EWP COOLANT HOSE REPLACEMENT - This bulletin provides information to replace the Electric Water Pump (EWP) coolant hose on some 2023-2024MY Niro EV (SG2 EV) vehicles produced from July 11, 2022 through January 24, 2024, which may exhibit a coolant leak from under the bulkhead due to a loosened EWP coolant hose at the EWP connector. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, a "Refill coolant" warning message may appear in the instrument cluster, followed by reduced heater performance. The retainer clip on the EWP coolant hose on the vehicle is positioned horizontally on the hose which may come loose after time. The improved coolant hose has the retainer clip rotated 90 degrees to be positioned vertically.

The current AVN software causes the warning sound and message to repeat approximately every ten (10) seconds, if the vehicle is not in motion, in 'PARK' or driving on even surfaces.

In some cases, the vehicle may exhibit a "Check electric vehicle system", and/or "Stop vehicle and check power supply" message in the instrument cluster display, and/or MIL 'ON' with DTC(s) described below. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) performs charging functions for the high voltage and the auxiliary 12V batteries, and depending on the DTC(s) stored, the ICCU may need to be replaced.

Also, this software upgrade will improve the electronic shift logic so that the vehicle will shift into PARK (P) automatically when the auxiliary battery's (12v) voltage is critically low and the vehicle is stationary.
