PITSTOP: ENGINE OVERHEATING IN NIRO HEV/PHEV - This Pitstop provides information to help troubleshoot an overheating symptom on some 2017-2022MY Niro HEV (DE HEV) and 2018-2022MY Niro PHEV (DE PHEV) which may exhibit coolant boiling in the reservoir. Overheating may occur due to a bypass valve in the Exhaust Heat Recovery System (EHRS) stuck in the closed position.

The 19MY Niro EV vehicle may be equipped with either one of these coolant color types and is normal for this vehicle application. The 20MY will have only the BLUE coolant. DO NOT mix the two types of coolants together, or switch the coolant type originally used in the system of the applicable EV vehicle.

Follow the procedure in this bulletin to recover and recharge the air conditioning system with the proper amount. Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected vehicles including dealer stock, prior to delivery.

Follow the procedure below to inspect and, if necessary, improve the logic of the AVN head unit and place a new UVO User?s Manual in the glove box.
