Service bulletins for the 2024 Kenworth T480

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

25KWB2025-03-04. Other. EXTERIOR LIGHTING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "Safety Recall – Interim Notification The Exterior Lighting Switch (ELS) in certain T180/T280/T380/T480 chassis may not function and can be reset only by a key cycle. This issue may result in non-compliance with FMVSS/CMVSS 101 and 108. This bulletin will be updated when software and programming procedures are available."
25KWA2025-02-05. Service bulletin. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Safety Recall – Interim Notification Certain vehicles may have an oversized magnet carrier in the throttle pedal assembly. The magnet carrier acts as the pivot for the throttle pedal. An oversized magnet carrier may cause the throttle pedal to stick. If the throttle pedal fails to return to idle, or sticks, it may increase the risk of a crash. Drivers may feel sticking or that the pedal doesn’t return to idle once released. Pressing the service brake will overcome a stuck throttle pedal and allow the vehicle to stop. This bulletin will be updated when parts and procedures are available.
24KWK2025-02-05. Service bulletin. STEERING. Safety Recall Parts and procedures are now available. Certain Kenworth model T480, T800, T880, and W990 equipped with a PACCAR 20k Steer Axle have been identified as having steering arm and/or tie rod arm fasteners that may be improperly torqued and can be at risk of failing. If either steering arm or tie rod arm fasteners fail, there may be a loss of steering control, which could increase the risk of a crash. Affected chassis will have all steering arm and tie rod arm bolts removed, replaced with new bolts, and torqued properly.
24KWK2025-01-07. Service bulletin. STEERING. PACCAR 20k Steer Axle Steer Arm and Tie Rod Arm Bolt Torque Interim Safety Recall Certain Kenworth model T480, T800, T880, and W990 equipped with a PACCAR 20k Steer Axle have been identified as having steer arm and/or tie rod arm fasteners that may be improperly torqued and can be at risk of failing. If both fasteners, in either steering arm or tie rod bracket fail, there may be a loss of steering control, which could increase the risk of a crash. At this time, parts are not available to complete the necessary repairs. This bulletin will be updated when parts become available. 12/12/2024
24KWJ2025-01-07. Service bulletin. STEERING. Meritor Front Steer Drive Axle Hub Lubrication Interim Safety Recall Certain Kenworth model T380 and T480 chassis equipped with a Meritor 10-16K or 18-23K Front Steer Drive Axle have been identified as possibly having insufficient wheel bearing grease. Insufficient lubrication in the wheel bearing may cause the wheel hub to overheat and become damaged, which may increase the risk of fire. The driver may observe noise, excessive steering play, and/or smoke from the front wheel. At this time, parts are not available to complete the necessary repairs. This bulletin will be updated when parts become available. 12/12/2024
R2306 - KW2024-12-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Retrofit This retrofit provides new MY24 emissions labels and replaces pre-production parts and software with production level parts and software on certain Model Year 2024 chassis. Reference the “Retrofit Parts Matrix” in the Links section below to determine which chassis are eligible and parts required to complete the Retrofit. The emissions exemption for all PACCAR MX powered chassis involved in this retrofit expires on 10/31/2024. After that date, all PACCAR MX powered chassis that have not received this Retrofit will be out of emissions compliance and illegal to operate. Certain Cummins powered chassis listed on the “Retrofit Parts Matrix” may also require completion of Cummins Retrofit C7014, accessed through Cummins QuickServe. Cummins powered chassis may also be subject to emissions exemption expiration. Refer to engine emissions label to determine if an exemption expiration date applies. Chassis equipped with PACCAR MX engines will receive redesigned fuel injectors to optimize engine performance.
98-0262024-06-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. New tools are required to support PACCAR TX-8 / ZF transmissions. Part numbers E0l-1012 (Adapter, Jack TX-8), E0l-1014 (Front Seal Installer), and E0l-1015 (Rear Seal Installer) are currently available to order
51-0172024-05-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Certain Kenworth T180/T280/T380/T480 trucks may have mis-pinned wires for the Bluetooth system which may cause the Bluetooth to not function properly when the driver tries to make/receive a call.
51-0172024-05-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT:BLUETOOTH/WIFI; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT:SOFTWARE. Certain Peterbilt 535, 536, 537, 548 chassis may have mis-pinned wires for the Bluetooth system, which may cause Bluetooth to not function properly when the driver tries to make/receive a call.
24KWE2024-04-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. Safety Recall – INTERIM NOTIFICATION Parts are not currently available for this safety recall. This bulletin will be updated once repair parts are available. The right-hand shift stalk may have an improper wire harness terminal crimp within the wire harness connector. Loss of communication between the right-hand shift stalk and the transmission may result in the vehicle becoming disabled after it comes to a stop thereby increasing the risk of crash or injury. A transmission fault will appear on the dash display if communication is lost.
24KWA2024-03-04. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY; BACK OVER PREVENTION. SAFETY RECALL Certain T180/T280/T380/T480 chassis may have cab mirror glass lock rings not fully seated. This could result in loss of mirror glass, reducing rear visibility and increasing the risk of an accident or injury. Missing mirrors cause non-compliance with FMVSS 111 / CMVSS 111. Mirror glass lock rings must be inspected and, if necessary, reseated.
24KWC2024-03-04. Service bulletin. STEERING. Safety Recall Inspection procedures are available. Steering gear serial numbers must be inspected to determine suspect gears. Certain steering gears may have been assembled incorrectly, causing the gear to fracture. This can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
