United States: NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19
23V3530002023-05-18. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BACK UP LIGHTS. Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2000-2003 International 8100, 2001-2003 International 9100i, 2001-2007 International 9400i, 2001-2010 International 9200i, 2002-2007, 2009 International 8500, 2003-2007, 2013 International 9900i, 2003-2018 International 8600, 2004, 2007 International 9900iX, 2008-2018 International ProStar, 2010-2011, 2013, 2016 International LoneStar, 2011-2012, 2016 International 4400, 2017-2024 International LT, 2018-2024 International RH, 2019-2021 International LS, 2019-2024 International MV vehicles. The back-up lights offer low visibility when the vehicle is in reverse and bobtail mode. Also, the vehicles have not been equipped with additional unobstructed back-up lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
05V5670002005-12-21. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH CATERPILLAR DIESEL ENGINES, THE ENGINE ELECTRICAL GROUND CABLE THAT CONNECTS THE ENGINE BLOCK WITH THE STARTER MAY BE ROUTED IN A WAY THAT COULD CAUSE CHAFING AGAINST THE STARTER'S POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES.
05V1880002005-04-28. TRAILER HITCHES:FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR OPERATED FIFTH WHEEL SLIDES AND AN MSVA 7-PACK ACCESSORY CONTROLLER, THE 7-PACK CAN ALLOW WATER TO CONTAMINATE ITS CIRCUIT BOARD. THIS COULD RESULT IN INADVERTENT OPERATION OF THE FIFTH WHEEL SLIDE CONTROL. Built 2001-10-10 to 2005-03-21.
04V3060002004-06-30. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES. ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH INTERNATIONAL DT530, CUMMINS, OR CATERPILLAR I-6 ENGINES, THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE BETWEEN THE BATTERIES AND THE STARTER MAY RUB AGAINST AN ELECTRICAL GROUND CABLE BETWEEN THE STARTER AND FRAME RAIL. Built 2002-04-23 to 2004-05-20.
03V1920002003-05-21. STEERING:LINKAGES. ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH DANA SPICER E-12021 12,000 LB., E-1202W 12,000 LB., OR E-1002W 10,000 LB. FRONT NON-DRIVE STEER AXLES, THE TAPERED BORE THAT CONNECTS THE DRAG LINK TO THE STEERING WAS MACHINED TOO LARGE. THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN A CORRECTLY SIZED DRAG LINK BALL STUD AND THE OVERSIZED TAPERED BORE IS SUFFICIENTLY GREAT ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE DRAG LINK BALL STUD TO FATIGUE AND BRAKE, OR ALLOW THE CASTLE NUT TO BACK ITSELF OFF AND CAUSE THE DRAG LINK TO DISCONNECT. Built 2002-06-21 to 2003-05-05.
03V0700002003-03-06. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY. ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH A CATERPILLAR ENGINE WITH A 4 DEGREE TILT, THE STARTER FIELD-STUD MAY CONTACT THE FRAME RAIL BECAUSE OF VARIATIONS IN THE AIR GAP BETWEEN THE FIELD STUD AND THE FRAME RAIL. SHOULD THE STARTER FIELD STUD CONTACT THE FRAME RAIL, THERE WOULD BE A DIRECT FULL BATTERY SHORT TO THE FRAME (GROUND) WHEN THE STARTER IS IN THE CRANKING MODE. Built 2002-09-03 to 2003-01-30.

20232932023-05-18. Lights And Instruments. Issue: On certain trucks, the backup lamps could be blocked and may not be visible. As a result, the trucks don't meet the requirements of the Canadian regulations. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a pintle hook lowering bracket and feature code 01WPN, 01 WPS, or 01VAL. Safety Risk: Backup lamps that aren't visible could cause a person not to recognize that the vehicle is backing and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Navistar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to install new tail stop/turn signal lamps with integrated backup lamps.
20053962005-12-19. Electrical. On certain vehicles, the electrical ground cable that connects the engine block with the starter may be routed in a way that could cause chafing against the starter's positive battery cable. If chafing occurs, an electrical short may result and may cause a vehicle fire, possibly resulting in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace and reroute the ground cable.
20051282005-04-29. Other. On certain vehicles, the electrically controlled Modular Solenoid Valve Assembly (MSVA) 7-pack can allow water to contaminate its circuit board possibly resulting in inadvertent operation of the fifth wheel slide control. If the fifth wheel slide control actuates while the vehicle is in transit, momentum from the trailer can cause the fifth wheel to slide without input from the driver, which may result in a vehicle crash without warning possibly resulting in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the 7-pack base and solenoids.
20042082004-06-24. Electrical. On certain vehicles, the positive battery cable between the battery and the starter may rub against an electrical ground cable between the starter and frame rail, possibly causing an electrical short and/or fire. Correction: Dealers will inspect to determine if any chafing has occurred between the positive and negative cables. If there is no evidence of chafing, a saddle clamp will be installed to ensure cables do not rub. If there is evidence of chafing, the damaged cables will be replaced and the swivel saddle clamp installed.
20031352003-05-22. Steering. On certain vehicles, the tapered hole in the steering arm was machined oversized. The clearance between a correctly sized drag link ball stud and the oversized tapered bore is sufficiently great enough to allow the ball stud to fatigue and potentially break. Also, the castle nut could completely back off, causing the drag link to disconnect from the steering arm. If the ball stud breaks or the drag link becomes disconnected, all steering control of the vehicle would be lost. Correction: Dealer will replace the steering knuckle and drag link.
20030502003-02-28. Electrical. On certain vehicles, the starter field stud may contact the frame rail. If the field stud of the starter contacts the frame rail and the starter is energized there can be a direct full battery current short to the frame (ground) when the starter is in the cranking mode. If the field stud of the starter contacts the frame rail during the engine cranking mode, the direct short can create a fire hazard which may result in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealer will replace the starter nose cone. The new nose cone will reorient the starter stud farther away from the frame rail to completely eliminate the clearance issue.

A campaign lists a year, a make and a model, and often only some of the vehicles built. A list with nothing on it is not a clearance either. The lookups below check one VIN.
