Service bulletins for the 2018 GMC Canyon

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

This Preliminary information communicates to the technician the need to inspect the induction system for potential icing issues in very cold ambient temperatures. To allow the ice to melt so that it can be drained from the related components. That any of the listed DTC's may set with or without poor engine performance.
PIP5725A2021-04-19. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. This Preliminary information communicates the use of Winter grade fuel during the warm months of 2020 and the potential rivability issues that it can cause. The ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant reductions in driving and fuel use. Due to the surplus of winter grade fuel sitting in storage (pipelines/stations) the EPA is waiving the fuel vapor requirement. This will extend the use of winter fuel into the summer months. The drivability concerns should not be single events but should be multiple occurrences associated with hot days.
PIT5696E2021-04-19. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. This preliminary information discusses potential for a code C0010.5A to store in the brake controller which appears to be setting falsely or is induced by the customer.

Engineering Information — Roof Panel Joint Finish Molding Loose, Missing or Lifting Condition Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this concern, DO NOT proceed with this EI. Condition Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this concern, DO NOT proceed with this EI. Some customers may comment on the roof panel joint finish molding loose, missing, or lifting. Cause GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. Engineering has a need to gather information on vehicles PRIOR to repair that may exhibit this condition. As a result, this information will be used to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix. Correction If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, PRIOR to any repair take pictures of the molding in its current state and contact one of the engineers listed below for further instructions.

Original Equipment Batteries Part Number and ACDelco Replacement Battery Approved Warranty Part Numbers Correct battery cold cranking amperage (CCA) ratings and type are critical for proper test results when using the EL-50313. Access to the battery specification label, which contains the OEM part number and CCA rating and type, may be difficult without component removal. Refer to the table below for the original equipment ratings and part numbers used to set up a proper battery test. There has been some confusion as to the correct ACDelco battery warranty replacement. Refer to the table below for the correct battery warranty replacement. Information Regarding the Differences Between Fluid Leakage and Seepage This bulletin is intended to help identify the differences between what is considered a fluid leak and what is considered seepage. Improper diagnosis may lead to unnecessary component replacement. Use the following information to determine if the condition is normal acceptable seepage or a defective component
140089004D2021-04-16. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Information for Fleet Vehicles – Ignition Key, Fob and Key Rings Configuration Some Customers are bundling multiple keys, fobs, and key tags together on a single crimped loop or a cable. 17-NA-3312021-04-15. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Rear View Camera Guidelines Not Present at Times Condition Some customers may report that the Rear View Camera (RVC) guidelines are temporarily not available at times but the RVC will remain on during the concern. Additionally, no related DTCs will be found if this bulletin applies. One example of when this concern may be observed is if a customer quickly starts the car and immediately places the shifter in Reverse while the infotainment system is still in the initial boot up process. Cause This is a result of the RVC image being provided via an alternate robust RVC feed from the Video Bypass Module (NGI systems) or from the radio (BYOM2 and Info 3.0 systems). This alternate robust RVC feed is provided in the event that the primary RVC feed is not available for any reason just to ensure that the RVC image is always present when in reverse. Correction If this concern is experienced and no related codes are present, DO NOT replace any parts as it is normal for the RVC guidelines not to be present when the RVC image being displayed is from the alternate robust RVC feed. If this occurs after quickly starting the vehicle and immediately placing the shifter in Drive, the RVC guidelines can be displayed again in most cases if they are really needed by safely coming to a stop, placing the transmission in Park for a moment, and then shifting to Reverse again.

All or Some Options May Be Missing from Driver Information Center (DIC) “Info Pages” Menu Due to Them Not Being Selected Condition Some customers may comment that with the “Info” option selected from the main menu (1), the “Info Pages” are blank (2) when scrolling up and down. If information is present when scrolling up and down, they may also comment that certain items are missing when compared to other like vehicles Cause This condition may be caused when all/some of the options not being selected in the “active info pages” menu. Correction If this concern is encountered, determine if all/any of the selections in the “active info pages” menu are not selected. To do this, follow the steps listed below.

Correction If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, perform normal diagnostics for the codes set. ⇒ If diagnostics lead to NOx sensor replacement, inspect the mating chassis electrical connector for corrosion. Clean and repair as necessary.
17-NA-2922021-04-14. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:RELAYS/SOLENOIDS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated - DTC P3409 and/or P3433 Condition Some customers may comment that the MIL is illuminated. The technician may find one or more of the following DTCs set: • P3409 • P3433 Cause This condition may be caused by a wiring issue with both/either the cylinder 2 deactivation solenoid oil control valve circuit and/or the cylinder 5 deactivation solenoid oil control valve circuit. These codes may be active or stored in history. • This may also be a repeat concern. Correction Note: When replacing the solenoids, ensure there are no terminal issues at the connector. To correct this condition, refer to the information below: • If vehicle was built between 4/13/2017 and 8/7/2017, it will be necessary to replace both right and left bank Cylinder Deactivation Solenoids (AFM OCV). • If vehicle was built outside the date range, check for any terminal issues at the connector.
