Service bulletins for the 2017 Freightliner Cascadia
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| SB49-041 | 2020-05-23. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Service Bulletin for Remote-Fill DEF Tank Fill Port Torque Value and Required Lubricant. Some New Cascadia vehicles with chassis fairings have remote-fill Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tanks which have new instructions to replace the remote fill hose and fitting. Proper torque value is critical, as the remote-fill fittings are plastic and can easily crack if overtightened. The gasket on the fill fitting is sensitive to improper installation, and can get pinched, resulting in a DEF leak. |
| CALFTL54-007 | 2020-05-23. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Customer Advisory Letter for Cab-to-Chassis Redundant Ground Strap Installation - FTL Service Bulletin 54-318. Our records indicate that you are the owner of certain vehicles, and DTNA has decided to share the following documentation with you. On New Cascadia vehicles Penske/Black Horse units built prior to May 23, 2019, cab wiring can be damaged with an incorrect ground location or loose ground connections. This can result in inoperable LIN bus-related steering wheel switches, cruise control dropout, poor AM/FM radio reception, and an inoperable steering wheel clockspring. Installing a redundant ground strap from the main ground junction block (MGJB) to the frame will protect the vehicle from unexpected loss of cab grounding, and restore proper operation of the steering wheel switches, the radio, and the steering wheel clockspring. |
| CALABSMODVALVE | 2020-05-14. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, AIR; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Customer Advisory Letter for ABS Modulator Valve Replacement. DTNA has decided to remove and replace the ABS modulator valves as part of an ongoing supplier quality study. |

The expansion reduces complexity in ordering reman engines and promotes stocking reman engines to meet uptime commitments. |
| SB60-167 | 2020-04-22. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE. Service Bulletin for Draining Water Trapped in the Upper A-Pillar. A water leak in the seams between the cab roof and cab side wall or back wall can result in water becoming trapped in the upper A-pillar area in some Cascadia and New Cascadia vehicles. This water may migrate inside the cab and eventually spill through the marker light fastener clearance holes and drip on the dash. |
| SB60-168 | 2020-04-18. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY; STRUCTURE. Service Bulletin for Installing Rain Gutters for Upper Door Seal Leaks. New Cascadia day cab vehicles with roof fairings may experience minor water leaks through the upper door seals. This issue can be minimized by regularly wiping down the door seals to keep them free of road grime. A rain gutter seal can also be installed above each door using a Cascadia tertiary seal (part number 18-63286-002). |
| SB60-170 | 2020-04-18. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Service Bulletin for Wear Pad Installation. The area of the floor mat near the throttle pedal is more prone to wear. To extend the life of a floor mat, a wear pad can be installed on it near the throttle and brake pedal area. |
| SB60-169 | 2020-04-18. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY. Service Bulletin for Replacing Windshield Gasket. Different types of cab leaks can result in water dripping from the top of the windshield, onto the dash. Replacing a windshield gasket unnecessarily may create new leak issues. Do not replace a windshield gasket unless it has been confirmed to leak, using the cab pressure test. |
| SB54-327 | 2020-04-17. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Service Bulletin for Lengthening the Backup Light Harness. Though the backup light harness is long enough to connect to the backup light switch, it may be short enough that the wire seals in the connector can be stressed. Moisture entering through the seals can cause corrosion, resulting in a bad connection and/or failure of the switch. As a result, backup lights and, if equipped, the backup alarm, may not function when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. |
| SB54-323 | 2020-04-17. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Service Bulletin for New Cascadia Pana-Pacific 540 Radio Controls Not Operating Normally. Pana-Pacific DEA540 radios (A22-74389-000) may cease to respond to volume control settings from the steering wheel switches or the controls on the radio faceplate, resulting in erratic volume control. The procedure to check the current software version of the radio is updated. |
| SS1034686 | 2020-04-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. Service Solution for P4 New Cascadia with Manual Transmissions Does Not Use Bottom Of Clutch Switch For Starting. On the prior P3 Legacy Cascadia vehicles with manual transmission, the Bottom of Clutch (BOC) switch could be uses as an interlock for the engine crank circuit. If programmed in the SAM Cab, the engine crank circuit would require the clutch to be fully depressed in order for the engine to crank. P3 also offered a neutral switch as an interlock that could be used instead of the BOC and would require the transmission to be neutral in order for the engine to crank. P4 New Cascadia only offers the neutral switch as the interlock for engine crank. |
| SS1034684 | 2020-04-09. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Service Solution for P4 New Cascadia Road Lamp Strain Relief and Water Protection For Electrical Connection. The connector that attaches to the road lamp is exposed to water spray from the vehicles front tires. Even though the connector is sealed, water spray, in conjunction with wiring that may be pulled sideways, can attribute to water intrusion into the connector. |
| SS1034682 | 2020-03-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Service Solution for Updated Common Telematics Platform (CTP) Installation and Activation Procedure. Some new CTPs being installed in the field have failed to activate and do not communicate with Detroit Connect back end. The activation of the CTP requires that the VIN and CTP serial number pair is transmitted from DiagnosticLink to the Detroit Connect registration server. When using the old procedure, there may be some factors that may prevent that VIN and CTP Serial Number pairing data from uploading to the server. |
