| SSM 52335 | 2024-03-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed. |
| SSM 52098 | 2023-12-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may require a long block replacement of the engine for various reasons. The replacement long block may be equipped with an updated upper oil pan. If the oil filter adapter from the original engine does not mate with the new upper oil pan, service parts PC3Z-6881-A (oil filter adapter), W503277-S439 (package of 6 bolts, 4 bolts required), W718564-S450 (stud), W520101-S442 (nut), and PC3Z-14A206-A (starter cable retaining bracket) will be needed to complete the repair. |
| SSM 51691 | 2023-06-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. 2011-2023 F-Super Duty and 2016-2024 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages. |
| SSM 51330 | 2023-03-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 7.3L engine may exhibit a ticking/clicking/tapping noise at idle that is loudest at the front of the engine where the front timing cover meets the oil pan. This may be due to a cracked oil pump drive gear. If the noise originates from the lower front of the engine, remove the accessory drive belt and retest. If the noise is still present, remove the oil pan and rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees to inspect for cracking. If cracked, replace the oil pump drive gear (LC3Z-6306-A). |
| SSM 51251 | 2023-01-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit a ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as Typewriter Noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. When engine temperatures reach 150 °F (65 °C) or higher, (from engine idle up to approximately 1700 RPM's), this noise can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. Typewriter Noise is not detrimental to engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. Do not attempt repairs to eliminate this noise. This noise is characteristic of the 6.7L diesel engine and will typically cease or diminish significantly within the oil change maintenance interval. |
| SSM 51170 | 2022-11-29. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an A/C system blowing only warm air. This may be due to the powertrain control module inhibiting the engagement of the air conditioning compressor clutch with parameter identification (PID) AC_INHIBIT_11 status showing TRUE. If this PID shows TRUE but the ambient air temperature PID reads correctly, this may be due to a disconnected mass air flow sensor with the ignition on, especially after checking the condition of the engine air filter. To correct the condition, clear all diagnostic trouble codes and perform the HVAC or FCIM - Reset the Outside Air Temperature Sensor Learned Values application. If the condition remains, the vehicle needs to be driven for 2-5 minutes over 23 mph (37 km/h). If the condition still remains, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 412-00 for normal diagnostics. |
| SSM 51150 | 2022-10-31. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), lack of power, and/or excessive turbo noise during operation, with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P003A, P0045, P0046, P0047, P0048, P0234, P0237, P0238, P132A, P2564, P2565, P2598, P259E, and/or P259F stored in the powertrain control module. If Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics lead to turbocharger variable vane actuator replacement, service part LC3Z-9G488-B has been released for service. Replacement of the turbocharger assembly is no longer required. When performing the VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) Valve reset, make sure that engine coolant temperature (ECT) is at least 158° F (70° C). |
| SSM 51078 | 2022-09-20. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.2L or 7.3L gas engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0339 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) or the vehicle may exhibit a runs rough concern with no DTCs. This may be due the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. If pinpoint test JD in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual or Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14 leads to CKP sensor replacement, use service part LC3Z-6C315-C. For claiming, use causal part 6C315 and labor operation 12650D57D in the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
