Service bulletins for the 2016 Ford F-350
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| SSM 51854 | 2023-09-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). Various 2013-2019 vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P264F after powertrain control module (PCM) replacement. This DTC indicates that the engine serial number (ESN) must be programmed into the PCM. The ESN is located on PTS > Diagnostics tab > HVBoM > Features > Engine Serial Number. Once the ESN is obtained from the historical vehicle bill of materials (HvBOM), it can be programmed into the PCM using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Navigate to the toolbox tab> powertrain menu> Service Functions> ESN. |

| SSM 51849 | 2023-09-01. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). The ESN is located on PTS> OASIS> Features> Engine Serial Number. Once the ESN is obtained from the historical vehicle bill of materials (HvBOM), it can be programmed into the PCM using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Navigate to the toolbox tab> powertrain menu> Service Functions> ESN. |
| SSM 50636 | 2022-03-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT. 2011-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2023 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages. |
| SSM 50449 | 2022-02-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2016 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P04E3 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) after reprogramming the PCM software for various reasons. Vehicles built on or after 11-Nov-2015 are not equipped with a crankcase ventilation sensor (CRNKCSVT). This DTC may be caused by incorrect PCM programming. To correct the condition, start a new vehicle session and run the PCM Programmable Module Installation (PMI). The IDS scan tool will ask to verify the style of the connector on the crankcase vent (CCV) hose. Answering this prompt incorrectly will cause DTC P04E3 to be stored in the PCM. A new Technical Support Video has been added to PTS at: http://site-307934.bcvp0rtal.com/detail/videos/303---engine/video/6294017439001/p04e3-after-pcm-reprogramming-on-14-16-my-6.7l-super-duties. |
| SSM 50096 | 2021-09-28. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2013-2016 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an Exhaust System Fluid Fault message and a forced idle mode with various diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). A video explaining how to remove the vehicle from forced idle mode has been added to the Technical Support Videos under the Technical Assistance tab on PTS. The video can be accessed using the following web link, http://site-307934.bcvp0rtal.com/detail/videos/303---engine/video/6258842975001/2013-2016-f-super-duty-exhaust-fluid-fault-procedure. |
| 16-0060 | 2020-12-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE. Some 2012-2016 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.2L or 6.8L engine built on or before 4/6/2016 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTCs P0627, P025A, P025B and/or U0109 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory. |
| SSM 47823 | 2019-04-08. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE. |
| 18N04 | 2018-11-19. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV). | SSM 46900 | 2018-01-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some vehicles may exhibit a no start condition with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and a DTC P161A after PCM replacement. This may be due to the parameter reset procedure not being properly completed. To clear this DTC, use the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software, select - Toolbox - Body - Security - PATS Functions - Parameter Reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure. This procedure will transfer the existing Key ID information between the modules without the need of having 2 programmed PATS keys present. There is no need to program keys when the PCM is going to be replaced. Additional information can be found in the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-01. Missing or lost keys are not warrantable. |
