This may be due to incorrect flex fuel learning, which is often caused by customer refueling habits or a stuck open evaporative emissions purge valve. Refer to pinpoint test H in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for diagnostics and Flex Fuel GSB for additional flex fuel system information and diagnostic tips.
SSM 485392020-03-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. SSM 48539 - 2017-2020 F-Super Duty/2018-2020 F-150 - 6.7L/3.0L - Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P208E - Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Injector Testing Some 2017-2020 F-Super Duty/2018-2020 F-150 vehicles equipped with the 6.7L or 3.0L engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTC P208E in the powertrain control module (PCM). When performing pinpoint test RK, the results of the selective catalyst reductant (SCR) dosing measurement test (RK7) may be zero or below the specified 40-50mL requirement due to urea crystals plugging the DEF injector nozzle. If the measurement is below this specified amount, perform pinpoint test step RK7 two additional times. If the specified amount is met, reinstall the reductant injector. If after three attempts the dosing measurement remains below the specified amount, the DEF injector should be replaced. The DEF pump should not be replaced for DTC P208E.
SSM 484392020-02-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2017-2020 F-150 and 2018-2020 Expedition/Navigator vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P04DB stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). The regulatory monitor for DTC P04DB is sensitive to crankcase system pressure concerns such as oil level indicator o-ring seal, incorrectly installed oil level indicator, crankcase hose, vacuum hose disconnects and oil fill cap o-rings. If root cause is unidentified after inspecting for loose or incorrectly installed crankcase pressure system components, perform Pinpoint Test HG in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual.
TSB 19-23652020-01-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2018-2020 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit excessive oil consumption of greater than 1L (1 quart) in 4,800 km (3,000 mi) with no visible oil leaks. This may be due to high intake manifold vacuum during some deceleration fuel shut off (DFSO) events resulting in oil being pulled into the combustion chamber from the crankcase, valve guides, and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV). To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM), install a new engine oil level indicator and change the engine oil and oil filter. The revised PCM calibration reduces engine vacuum during some DFSO events.
