Service bulletins for the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SSM 552212026-10-12. Service bulletin. UNKNOWN OR OTHER; POWER TRAIN; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. For 20222026 vehicles equipped with a 8F35 transmission, a revision to the Road Testing Vehicle procedure has been made in the WSM, Section 307-01 > Diagnosis and Testing. This updated procedure improves the diagnosis of customer reported transmission concerns and aids in locating the proper root cause. During diagnosis and testing, details regarding whether the condition is more prevalent when the vehicle is hot or cold, throttle percentage at the time of occurrence, vehicle speed, the specific shift involved, and whether the issue occurs during transmission engagements (N>R, N>D, R>D, and/or D>R) should be noted in the warranty claim. Engineering requests including these detailed operating conditions that will significantly assist with root cause analysis. Diagnosis, testing, and repair should use established labor times outside this article.

SSM 523142024-03-20. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. During service and repair requiring removal and replacement of a crankshaft bolt and/or crankshaft damper, achieving proper torque of the crankshaft pulley bolt is critical. Incorrect torque may allow the bolt to loosen resulting in the timing gear breaking and engine damage. Replacement of the bolt is critical to the repair and accurately following the installation procedure in the Workshop Manual (WSM) Section, 303-01 is extremely important. The bolt torque procedure can be found in the crankshaft front seal removal and installation procedure or in the engine assembly procedure.

Some 2020-2023 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with the 1.5L engine may exhibit a lugging vibration and/or boom noise while driving in gears 5-8 at approximately 1500 engine revolutions per minute (RPM). This may be felt more when the engine is under a light to moderate load. A vibration and/or boom noise could be generated from the firing frequency of the 3 cylinders or when cylinder deactivation occurs and the engine is running on 2 cylinders. This condition is more noticeable when the vehicle is driven in ECO mode. This mode was designed to deliver maximum fuel efficiency and increase the driving range.
SSM 516562023-06-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some 2022-2023 F-150/Bronco/Expedition/Navigator/Escape/Corsair/Bronco Sport/Edge/Mustang vehicles built on 04-Sep-2022 and through 30-Dec-2022 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0230 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). The vehicle may also experience a no start or stall after start. This may be due to an internal PCM issue. If this DTC is present, verify the battery condition, then perform pin point test (PPT) KC of the Work Shop Manual (WSM), Section 310-01. If PPT KC leads to component replacement, start with replacing the PCM and then evaluate the vehicle. If the DTC returns, follow WSM, Section 310-01 PPT KC direction to address the issue.
SSM 516132023-05-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may also become illuminated after the vehicle experiences a second event before it can be brought in for service. This may be due to an internal issue with the PCM. To correct the condition, check the battery condition and state of charge, then replace the PCM and re-evaluate the concern. For claiming, use causal part 12A650 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. If the concern persists, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 303-14B and perform Pinpoint Test AA for normal diagnostics.
SSM 515372023-05-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). This may be due to the suspension sensitivity of the vehicle and interaction of the caliper housing with the pad backplate. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the rear caliper bushings.
22B382023-02-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Certain 2022 Model Year Multiple Vehicle Lines Equipped with 8F35 Transmissions Transmission Replacement In all of the affected vehicles, the snap ring that is used to hold the 8F35 transmission clutch compression spring engaged was not fully seated in the assembly process. When the snap ring is not fully seated, the transmission will function as if the C clutch is partially engaged. The customer may experience rough shifts until the transmission can adapt to the clutch performance. There is a potential long term durability concern associated with the compromised function of the clutch.
