Service bulletins for the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

PIP5213D2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician that the part restriction on the 8L45/8L90 8 speed and the LCT1000 6 Speed Allison automatic transmission has ended.
PIP53372017-08-15. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the step to diagnose and repair the vehicles that may have a shake or shudder during light throttle acceleration, between 30 and 65 mph steady state driving. Also shudder feeling that may be described as driving over rumble strips or rough pavement. Technician will drive the vehicle and monitor the torque converter clutch slip. The torque converter clutch slip speed should be 10 rpm or less also note if the shudder takes place during torque converter clutch apply. If the torque converter clutch slip speed is in the range of 10 RPM or less the condition is possibly related to engine performance. If the shudder is only present in 4 cylinder mode and torque converter clutch slip is 10 rpm or less deem the shudder concern normal characteristic of Active Fuel Management. If the slip speed is beyond 10 rpm or there is shudder during torque converter clutch apply the torque converter will need to be replaced with a updated part number.
PIT5202C2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE; POWER TRAIN; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that are equipped with 6L80 Regular Production Option Code (MYC), 6L90 Regular Production Option Code (MYD) or 8L90 Regular Production Option Code (M5U) Automatic Transmission. Starting with the 2013 model year, Full Size Trucks and Utilities now have Powertrain Grade Braking. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the step to diagnose and repair the vehicles that may have a shake or shudder during light throttle acceleration, between 30 and 65 miles per hour steady state driving. Also shudder feeling that may be described as driving over rumble strips or rough pavement. Technician will need to run the vehicle in three different operational modes. The three modes are Normal, torque converter clutch open, and torque converter clutch closed. Technician will need to press and hold the tow-haul mode button for five seconds to disable grade braking to prevent downshifts during test. Technician will need to duplicate the concern in Normal mode. If the concern is gone in torque converter clutch open and closed then the torque converter should be replaced. If the concern is not present in normal mode, torque converter clutch open, and torque converter clutch closed the concern is not with the shudder. Technician should use of the PICO scope and Noise, Vibration and Harshness software can be used to confirm torque converter clutch shudder, Engine, Tire or Driveline component related conditions. Flush the cooler lines and cooler using DT-45096 transmission oil cooling system flush and flow test tool when the torque converter is replace.

On higher mileage vehicles technicians are instructed to remove the transmission fluid pan and inspect for debris. If debris is found technicians should disassemble and inspect for root cause of the concern and repair the transmission as needed. If no debris is found technicians are advised to replace the valve body.
PIP54372017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have harsh shifts concerns. Technicians will use Global Diagnostic System 2 software to confirm which shift is causing the concern. On low mileage vehicles technician are instructed to perform a drive learn procedure. On higher mileage vehicles technicians are instructed to remove the transmission fluid pan and inspect for debris. If debris is found in the pan, technicians should disassemble and inspect for root cause of the concern and repair the transmission as needed. If no debris is found technicians are advised to replace the valve body.
PIP52502017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a Service 4WD message on the Driver Information Center. Technician may find C0398 or C0326 stored in the Transfer Case Control Module. Technician should reprogram the Transfer Case Control Module using Service Programming System for the updated calibrations to resolve this concern.
PIP5211B2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ENGINE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps needed to diagnose and repair vehicles with a rough idle and/or vibration at idle in Drive. This condition will not be present in Park, or Neutral. This concern may be caused by ground out within the one or both engine mounts. Technician will use CH-51450-A (Pico Oscilloscope) to measure the vibration disturbance. If the vibration concern is E1.5 in the horizontal / lateral direction with Pico sensor mounted in seat track as indicated ? continue with steps to reduce the amplitude of the vibration by adding spacers in key locations to reduce ground out within the engine mounts. The 6.2L engine has a characteristic E1 which can be felt, and may be described as a lopey idle. Do not confuse 6.2L E1 characteristic (not caused by mount ground-out), with E1.5 normal idle characteristics being transmitted into the truck via ground-out thru the engine mounts. If measuring high at the seat track 12 mg or greater; replacement of the engine mounts should help reduce the amplitude of the vibration. If the disturbance measures at the seat track as E 1.5 lateral in the range of approximately 2.5 - 8 mg using a tri-axis sensor. Then place tri-axis Pico sensor on the inboard seat track forward-most location to record measurement of the rough idle vibration concern. With the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning on perform several short heavy launch events from stop to stop to bring the temperatures back up while attempting to re-create the rough idle vibration in Drive with Pico sensor placed on inboard seat track; while the vibration is active ? Record Pico reading. This method seems to provide better results than extended test drives. If the Pico reading for E1.5, with vibration active, at specified seat track location measures close to 2mg or less use Service Information to diagnose rough idle / vibration. If the Pico reading for E1.5, with vibration active, at the inboard forward seat track

If the leak is coming from torque converter seal, replace torque converter seal and inspect torque converter hub for possible sharp edges on the transition from flats to hub diameter that may damage the seal when the torque converter is installed. If sharp edges are found, dress the edges or replace the torque converter. If the leak is from any of the outer converter housing bolts, replace Separator Plate, both separator plate gaskets, the pump O-ring, and all the retaining bolts and seals. Install new copper washers under the two lower housing bolts. If Leak is through the torque converter housing casting replace the casting, the gaskets and the separator plate.
