Service bulletins for the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Replace the front bumper fascia air deflector on certain vehicles located in the following hot weather areas: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Israel. The front grille shutter actuator on these vehicles may exceed the actuator's angular tolerance range. This could cause the illumination of the Service Engine Soon lamp; however it does not affect the operation of the grille shutter assembly and it will continue to operate properly. |
| G-179000 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT. 13387 - Service Update. Dealers are to perform a drive audit. A small number of engines may develop a crankshaft bearing noise condition at low mileage. The drive audit must be completed before vehicle delivery (and in addition to normal pre-delivery inspection activities) to identify vehicles with the condition. If the condition is found, dealers are to replace the engine. |
| G-174546 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. 13282A - Service Update (revised exhange allowance). An analysis of transmission build data revealed that there could be a durability issue with the transmissions originally installed in these vehicles. To ensure the highest quality and best ownership experience for our customers, these transmissions need to be replaced prior to vehicle delivery. This bulletin provides a service procedure to replace the transmission assembly on certain vehicles equipped with 6T40 automatic transmission (MHH). The transmissions in these vehicles may have been assembled with an improperly manufactured snap ring. A burr on the snap ring can cause it to stick to the aluminum housing causing the snap ring to compress and come out of the retaining groove. If this occurs, the Check Engine Light illuminates and the transmission enters default mode (Second Gear - 65 mph or 104 km/h maximum and Reverse Gear operation only). Customer complaints may include no shift, erratic shifts, growls and slipping, hesitation and jerks. |
| G-174372 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. 13283 - Service Update. An analysis of engine build data revealed that there could be a durability issue with the engines originally installed in these vehicles. To ensure the highest quality and best ownership experience for our customers, these engines need to be replaced prior to vehicle delivery. This bulletin provides a service procedure to replace the engine assembly on certain vehicles equipped with 4 cylinder engine (RPO LCV or LKW). Due to a casting error, these vehicles may have engine pistons that are dimensionally incorrect. Over time, contact between the cylinder valves and the piston could result in engine noise, rough running and/or bent valves. |

| G-173380 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. 13257 - Service Update. Reprogram the body control module (BCM). When the key is turned to start the engine, a series of communication events occur. If there is an interruption in this communication, it could result in a no crank/start condition. The engine can be started with the remote start feature; however, the engine will shut down within 5 seconds if the communication error occurs. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, the engine can be started. This condition may or may not occur on subsequent starts, depending on whether or not there is a communication error. |
| G-170712 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. 13013B - Service Update (revised service procedure). Tighten all 4 exhaust manifold bolts. The ring gasket may be pinched between the flanges on the inside diameter of the joint leading to a visible gap. As the pinched part of that gasket relaxes, clamp load is lost at that stud location. |
| G-166827 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS. 13125 - Customer Satisfaction Program - There may be an interference condition between the outside door handle and the door handle bracket assembly. This could cause the outside door handle to stick or bind in the open position when the door is opened from outside of the vehicle. If this occurs, the door may bounce back when attempting to close it. If the door does not latch, a warning chime will sound and a warning message in the instrument cluster will illuminate. Tapping on the outside door handle or closing the door with higher effort should free the door handle and allow it to latch. Dealers will inspect and modify the front and rear outside door handles. |
| G-166208 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. 13120B - Service Update (population added; expiration date extended). Reprogram the transmission control module (TCM). The torque converter clutch solenoid in the TECHM can stick due to debris in the transmission. When the vehicle is at the end of a coast-down, as the vehicle is coming to a stop, a stuck solenoid will fail to release the torque converter clutch. This keeps the engine directly connected to the driven wheels. As the vehicle stops, the engine speed will be pulled down below normal idle speed and the engine may stall. The vehicle can be immediately restarted and driven. The reprogramming will install a revised calibration to correct this condition. |
| G-164258 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER. 13120A - Service Update (revised population). Dealers are to reprogram the transmission control module with a revised calibration to correct this condition. |

Dealers are to reprogram the transmission control module with a revised calibration to correct this condition. |
| G-158994 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. 12238D - Service Update (revised part numbers & instructions). The generator control module (GCM) may not function properly, resulting in the gradual loss of battery charge, illumination of the MIL, and eventual engine stall or no start condition. Dealers are to inspect and replace, if necessary, the GCM. |
| G-158840 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. 13013A - Service Update (revised service procedures ). The ring gasket may be pinched between the flanges on the inside diameter of the joint leading to a visible gap. As the pinched part of that gasket relaxes, clamp load is lost at that stud location. Dealers are to tighten all 4 exhaust manifold bolts. |
