This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about the Media Oriented Systems Transport Bus Diagnostic Tool Kit (EL-51578) has been released to help diagnose any of the Media Oriented Systems Transport bus concerns. The kit contains header connectors that are installed to bypass Media Oriented Systems Transport bus modules. The bypass connector also contains a terminal for verifying Media Oriented Systems Transport control circuit voltages. Technician should review Media Oriented Systems Transport bus description and operation and Diagnostic Trouble Code U0028 diagnostic procedures.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a service column lock message with a possible diagnostic trouble code B2897 symptom 05 set as history. Any of the follow scenarios could set the code. 1. Power mode is OFF, OPEN the Driver Door, then press the Ignition Switch within 100ms (power mode changes to ACC or RUN) 2. Power mode is ACC or RUN, the Driver Door is OPEN, then change power mode to OFF, and close the Driver Door within 300ms 3. Power mode is OFF, then OPEN and CLOSE the Driver Door quickly?in less than 300ms If these are ruled out as the cause of the code or it is set current follow normal service information diagnostics. If the above scenarios are the cause of the concern this is a normal operation, communicate to the customer that General Motors is working on a solution for this concern.
PIP4959E2017-08-15. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician with information regarding high misfire rates always on #1 cylinder. A customer may complain of misfires or roughness on cold start up with a P0300 diagnostic trouble code. Technician is to add coolant dye to the system and run the engine through warm up to circulate the dye. Pressurize the cooling system after a cold soak and inspect the cylinder with a bore scope for coolant dye. Dye is used to identify coolant over residual fuel being that might be left in the cylinder. The technician is not to replace the cylinder head as it will not correct this concern. In some cases it is necessary to remove the head for inspection. Do not replace the engine for small surface pock marks or a pitting appearance this is normal and do not connect to coolant passages. Usually if porosity is present there will be a break in the carbon ring. Only replace the engine if true porosity is found. Technician is to call Product Quality Center with the latest version of bulletin 02-07-30-029 if porosity is found and engine replacement is required.
PIP5209C2017-08-15. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician to follow this Preliminary Information if there is a diagnostic trouble code P00C6 and or P228C set and normal Service Information diagnostics didn?t lead to a repair. Technician is to recheck the terminals at the Engine Control module for fit and tension as well as the crimp to the wire. The engine control module terminals to inspect are in the X2 connector. Inspect terminal number 3, 18 and 19 for the fuel rail pressure sensor and in the X3 connector terminals 16 and 32 for the high pressure fuel pump. The diagnostic trouble codes could set with as little as a 2 ohm resistance reading on these circuits. If any concerns are found replace the affected terminals and verify the repair.
