Service bulletins for the 2015 BMW X6

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

B1117152018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT. "N63, N63TU and N63R Engines: Upper Oil Pan Removal and Installation Repair Instructions This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B11 17 15 dated August 2015.. INFORMATION When removing and/or installing the engine upper oil pan assembly, the oil pan can sustain damage if this operation is not performed correctly. Before loosening or tightening the engine upper oil pan refer to the newly released Repair Instruction 11 13 010 ""Removing and installing/replacing upper oil sump"" in ISTA/D 3.55.11 or higher for the proper procedures. IMPORTANT: The new repair instructions will state one of the following before reinstalling the upper engine oil pan. ""All threads must be cleaned with screw tap"" Or ""Clean all threads with screw tap. Order number 81 43 0 402 559"" Or ""Clean all threads with a thread cutter"". The current repair instruction terminology will be modified to include this information."
B1201162018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Under certain engine operating conditions the measured air mass between the cylinder banks 1-4 and 5-8 is miscalculated by the DME's. This could result in incorrect engine torque and mismatched ignition parameters with the possibility of internal engine damage.
B1111172018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye.
B1101132018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. N63 AND N63T ENGINE: ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, ENGINE OIL TOP-UPS AND REFILL CAPACITY. Customers with one of the vehicles above may complain that the engine's oil consumption is "too high," resulting in engine oil top-ups and workshop visits to address the issue before the vehicle displays an engine oil service as being "due." When the vehicle's engine oil drops to the minimum level, a message will display in the vehicle advising the driver to "add 1 quart of engine oil." After topping up and continued operation, the "add engine oil" message may display again before an engine oil service is required and performed. CAUSE Engines that are fitted with a turbocharger, as part of their normal operation, will consume engine oil at a higher rate than a naturally aspirated engine (non-turbocharged engine). In this case, a "turbocharged" engine could require topping up of the engine oil more frequently.
B6403182018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. DELIVERY STOP: REFRIGERANT AIR CONDITIONING. An incorrect refrigerant was used to fill the refrigerant circuit in the affected vehicles after assembly. AFFECTED VEHICLES This Service Action involves X5 or X6 (Only 8 vehicles) vehicles produced from January 16 to February 19, 2018. Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader. The affected vehicles will be identified with the description: 0064950100 B640318 Delivery Stop: Refrigerant Air Conditioning.
1230142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Engine Intermittently Will Not Start at Very Low Outside Temperatures. The engine will not start at times at very low outside temperatures (-4°F/-20°C and colder); however, the battery state of charge is correct and the starter turns the engine over properly. This starting difficulty is most likely to occur after shutting the engine off briefly for 5 or 10 minutes, such as when refueling. The following faults are most likely stored in the DME: N20 engine: ? 1B5202 - Terminal 15N_1: No voltage? 1B5302 - Terminal 15N_2: No voltage ? 1B5402 - Terminal 15N_3: No voltage N52T engine: ? 1B5102 - Terminal 15N_3: line from CAS, electric: short circuit to earth ? 1B5501 - Terminal 15N: No voltage ? 1F0601 - Terminal 15N from CAS, switching delay: Switches too lateN55 engine: ? 1B5202 - Terminal 15N_1: No voltage? 1B5302 - Terminal 15N_2: No voltage ? 1B5402 - Terminal 15N_3: No voltage In addition, other engine electronic power supply-related faults could be stored for components such as VANOS solenoids, camshaft sensors, engine oil pressure sensor, engine oil pressure control valve, engine oil level sensor, etc. At very low outside temperatures, low levels of moisture present inside the power distribution module (PDM) can freeze the internal micro-relay contacts.
1107132018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The test plan will help identify the actual oil level, and advise the amount that will need to be added to correctly fill the engine when topping up. When performing the scheduled oil service and filling the engine with the amount specified, the applicable ISTA/D repair instruction does not require performing this test plan. Applicable models: ? F01 and F02 with the N63T engine with I-Level F001-13-03-501 or higher ? F06, F07, F12 and F13 with the N63T engine with I-Level F001-13-03-501 or higher ? 0104142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. External Engine Oil Leaks and Repairs. During the vehicle's operational life, normal engine oil seepage or sweating, in addition to accumulated road dust, dirt and grime in the engine compartment can cause the appearance of a more severe oil leak. This is further exaggerated by residual oil that remains on the engine assembly after maintenance services are performed, e.g., oil filter changes, "engine oil top-offs," etc. If this visual appearance of accumulated oil on the engine assembly as an "active leak" is misinterpreted, unnecessary gasket repairs/replacements will result. Specifically, our analysis of the claim-related data for vehicles equipped with the engines noted in this bulletin is showing an above-average number of engine gasket repair/replacement claim submissions. The purpose of this bulletin is to provide your workshop with information and a procedure that will help in identifying engine oils leaks that do and do not require a repair.
