Service bulletins for the 2019 BMW X5
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

WHEN LOCKING VEHICLE DOORS ARE LOCKED BUT VEHICLE IS NOT SECURED: The customer complains that when locking the vehicle from the outside using the remote control: The doors lock The alarm system is not activated The side mirrors (when the function is activated) do not fold in CAUSE Due to a software error on the Body Domain Controller (BDC) it identified the remote control as being inside even though the remote control is actually located outside the vehicle. This caused the doors to be locked without securing the vehicle. |
| B661919 | 2020-04-27. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES. COMFORT ACCESS AND COMFORT GO NOT POSSIBLE: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B66 19 19 dated May 2019. Vehicle cannot be unlocked/locked or started via Comfort Access. Remote control functionality is restored by pressing any of the key buttons or by removing and reinstalling the remote control key battery. The Display Key Digital Key and the Digital Key Card are not affected. Electrostatic discharge puts the remote control key into a deep sleep. Various situations can lead to an electrostatic charge which is often not recognized by the customer. For example walking over carpet wearing shoes that have a hard rubber sole positive and negative charges are exchanged. The sole accumulates a negative charge and an electrostatic charge develops before touching the remote control key. |

The customer states that the vehicle locks itself when the last door was closed even though the remote control/display key was inside the vehicle. Sporadic interference causes the vehicle to revert to "outside detection" of the vehicle remote control instead of "inside the vehicle detection" which is where the key was located. |
