Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW X5
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| B130116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL. The DDE software application for exhaust gas recirculation control (EGR) does not favorably match the diesel fuel grades available in many parts of the US market. The high pressure EGR cooler could become filled with soot particulate to the point that exhaust gas flow and cooling efficiency are significantly reduced. This could result in the Service Engine Soon light coming on with EGR control / Air mass faults being stored in the DDE. |
|---|---|
| B120116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Under certain engine operating conditions the measured air mass between the cylinder banks 1-4 and 5-8 is miscalculated by the DME's. This could result in incorrect engine torque and mismatched ignition parameters with the possibility of internal engine damage. |
| B621415 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Instrument Cluster Multifunction Display Intermittently Blank . Some information displays in the Instrument Cluster (KOMBI) may intermittently go blank. This may include the tachometer and speedometer displays. There is a software error in the KOMBI. |
| B620116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. "Vehicles which have had the Instrument Cluster (KOMBI) replaced may display incorrect CBS (Condition Based Service) data after programming. AFFECTED VEHICLES Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as ""Open"" when checked either in the ""Service Menu"" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader. Incorrect SW calibration loaded after KOMBI replacement." |

| B650518 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. AIR BAG LAMP ILLUMINATED. FAULT CODE 9309A0. The red air bag warning light is illuminated (check-control message: restraint system, CCM-ID: 97) The following fault memory is entered in the ACSM4 (Advanced Crash Safety Module): 9309A0 - Safety battery terminal 3: Resistance too big / Safety cutout of EME: Resistance too great Contact problem with connector A190*1B at the EME (Electrical Machine Electronics). The wires going to pins 7 (CRASH +) and 20 (CRASH-) in connector A190*1B are under tension. Vibrations may sporadically increase the resistance values of these connections outside of the acceptable range leading to an air bag warning light being illuminated. Note: This repair will also satisfy SI B12 28 18 'F15 PHEV - Malfunction indicator lamp lit' |
| B613017 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR (RLS): OIL LEAKAGE FROM GEL PAD. ??Oil leaking from the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS). Note: This oil serves as a separation medium between the RLS mounting gel pad and the windscreen. The oil ensures damage free disassembly in case of repair. CAUSE The oil that serves as the separation medium of the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) gel pad and the windscreen leaks out. Expose the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) and properly clean the area of all oily residue. Note: The separating oil usually leaks only once from the pad at the RLS. Due to the small oil quantity in the gel pad, additional oil leakage is not plausible. Leaking oil does not impair the function of the RLS. |
| B611018 | 2018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE DISPLAY GOES BLACK, THE ENGINE CAN BE SWITCHED OFF ONLY VIA THE EMERGENCY-OFF.. * On board computer and navigation system goes black or resets. * The engine can only be switched off by pressing the START/STOP button three times (Emergency STOP) * Various Check Control messages are displayed. * At a minimum the following fault code is present: D91C86 - CAN message, status functional safety (ST_FSSY): Timeout-BDC * Additional fault messages may also be displayed Software error in the central gateway of the Body Domain Controller (BDC) control unit. Note: Parts replacement does NOT provide a solution! |

| B652316 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. ?AUDIO VOLUME NOT RESTORED AFTER MSA STOP, ENTRY HEAD UNIT. Volume of audio system (when set to near maximum) is reduced when Auto Start-Stop (MSA) stop occurs and is not restored upon automatic engine restart. This is normal system behavior - serves to protect the head unit, battery drain and avoidance of incremental leaps in the loudness. The loudness is reduced to 2/3 of maximum and is not restored. Note: Air conditioning output is also reduced upon MSA stop and is not restored for similar reasons. |
