Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW 530i

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

COOLANT LEVEL CHECK AND TOP-OFF AT SECOND OIL SERVICE: A new, additional coolant level check task is now linked to the second engine oil service (Service Counter 2 only). The scope of maintenance work will display in ISPA Next that applies to the high-temperature circuit. This new coolant check only pertains to the above listed models with gasoline engines. During the normal operation of the vehicle, there is a certain amount of coolant absorption by the various components/gaskets/seals contained within the coolant systems. Over time, the coolant absorption can cause the coolant level to fall below the maximum fill level in the reservoir. In some cases, the level may even fall low enough to cause the high-temperature circuit low coolant level warning light to illuminate, along with displaying the corresponding Check Control message.

CCM DISPLAYED "INCREASED BATTERY DRAIN" CAUSED BY CONTROLLER: A yellow CCM (Check Control Message) ID 415 is displayed- "Increased battery drain! // Battery. Electrostatic discharge at standstill / start engine. Energy management" The results of the Energy Diagnosis test plan identifies the Controller as the root cause of the CCM. The Controller delays the vehicle going to sleep by up to 6 minutes. In some cases this will cause the CCM 415 to be displayed when starting the vehicle. Replacing the Controller in this case will not correct this situation.
B5122192020-06-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ENGINE; EQUIPMENT. PASSENGER SIDE UPPER ACTIVE AIR FLAP STUCK OPEN/CLOSED: Upon visual inspection the passenger side upper active air flaps are either stuck open or closed and they will not move. Remote control functionality is restored by pressing any of the key buttons or by removing and reinstalling the remote control key battery. The Display Key Digital Key and the Digital Key Card are not affected. Electrostatic discharge puts the remote control key into a deep sleep. Various situations can lead to an electrostatic charge which is often not recognized by the customer. For example walking over carpet wearing shoes that have a hard rubber sole positive and negative charges are exchanged. The sole accumulates a negative charge and an electrostatic charge develops before touching the remote control key.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
