Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW 435i
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.
325 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

Ticking noise coming from front wheel while cornering without brakes applied noticeable at low speeds. The vehicle must be moving. See attached video V34 01 20 Note: For a similar noise heard when parking with the brakes applied refer to SIB 31 01 12. Microscopic movement of the contact interface between the inner brake disc and the wheel bearing flange on vehicles equipped with lightweight brake discs. |
| B270315 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Vibration or Shudder from Driveline when Accelerating from a Stop. Chassis stabilization warning is displayed. Vehicle may exhibit a shudder or vibration when taking off from a stop. One or more of the following fault codes may be stored: LMV ? 440101 - Transfer box (VTG): End of transmission service life reached ? 440105 - Transfer box (VTG ) Calibration Faulty ? 440115 - Transfer box (VTG): Calibration angle deviation outside tolerance? 44011B - Set torque outside of the torque characteristic curve EGS ? 420611 - DSC interface (wheel speed): non-permitted deviation of wheel speed (actual speed of wheel RL/FL/RR/FR, 0x254) from output speed and turbine speed DSC ? 48097D - Transfer box: Fault, clutch position known, only rear-wheel drive These symptoms or faults would be stored on a vehicle with low mileage (< 12,500 miles). CAUSE A front or rear differential with the incorrect gear ratio was installed in the car. The front and rear differentials need to be geared exactly the same for the xDrive to function properly. |
| B260116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT; POWER TRAIN. Vibration or Knocking Noise from the Center of the Vehicle. When accelerating, there is a knocking, or vibration, felt from the center of the vehicle. This sensation can be easily duplicated when accelerating with the transmission in 2nd or 3rd gear (manual mode). Torque flex in the rear driveshaft. |
| B123314 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 12 33 14 dated December 2015. SUBJECT Fault Code 1D2008 Stored in DME. The Service Engine Soon light is on. Fault Code 1D2008: Map thermostat: jammed open is stored in the DME. There may also be a complaint of low heat output with lower outside temperatures. CAUSE During the engine warm-up, the engine coolant does not reach operating temperature within the DME's allowable time limits. This is caused by either a faulty thermostat inside the transmission oil heat exchanger or a faulty engine characteristic map thermostat. |
| B112615 | 2018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE. Delivery Stop: B58 Engine - Check Crankshaft Bearing Shells.A Delivery Stop has been issued on F30 and F32 certain vehicles produced from July 2015 (start of production) to December 2, 2015. These vehicles may have upper guide bearing shells that may exhibit wear at low mileage. There are 45 vehicles affected by this stop. For your convenience, attached you will find the list of affected VINs. This bulletin will be updated with repair instructions and warranty information when it becomes available. Affected vehicles can be identified with a ?Vehicle Comment? in DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or ISPA Light with a specific description. |
| B330215 | 2018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. "Grinding or cracking noise when putting vehicle in gear/ ""Drive Disturbed"" displayed. A metallic grinding or cracking noise is heard from the rear of the vehicle when selecting Drive or Reverse. There may also be a Check Control message ""Drive Disturbed"" displayed. CAUSE The inner and/or outer universal joint on the right and/or left rear output shaft has failed." |
| B240215 | 2018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. 8HP: Transmission Fluid Loss from Cooler Lines Connections. There is a transmission fluid leak in the area around the oil cooler lines (on the transmission side). CAUSE Damaged o-rings due to unfavorable cooling line connection tolerances |
| 120115 | 2018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. SUBJECT N20 and N26 Differential Pressure Sensor Fault 195002 Stored in DME. The Service Engine Soon (MIL) light is on with the following differential pressure sensor fault stored: z 195002 - Differential pressure sensor, tank vent valve, electrical: Short circuit to ground During engine operation, vibration and movement of the sensor can damage the pin contacts of the harness connector, or cause a break in the wiring. |
| B270415 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE; WHEELS. Shudder from the Driveline on Vehicles with xDrive. There is a shudder or vibration from the driveline when taking off from a stop, or when accelerating at highway speeds. CAUSE Possible multiple root causes related to the engine, wheels & tires, suspension components or internal wear on the clutch plates of the xDrive transfer case. |
| B340814 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY; WHEELS:HUB; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC. Ticking Noise from Front Axle When Cornering. The customer may complain of a ticking noise from the front axle when cornering, maneuvering, parking or pulling away from a parking space. The noise can be heard as a light metallic ticking from the front outer cornering wheel. Movement between the brake disc and wheel bearing hub. |
| 610314 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. Check Control Messages Related to Battery Charge During Cold Ambient Temperatures. On cold days with an outside ambient temperature of less than 15°F, customers may notice a check control message related to the battery that is displayed on the instrument cluster and the control information display. Under these conditions, the vehicle starts. Various power management faults can be stored. When the outside temperatures drop below 46°F, the charging system is switch to full charge. CAUSE ? The check control message (ID 229) is caused by a heavily discharged battery. ? The check control message is triggered when the current state of charge (SoC) of the battery approaches the minimum SoC that is required to start the vehicle (start capability limit). ? In low outside ambient temperatures, the start capability limit of the vehicle is higher. Therefore it takes more energy from the battery to start a cold engine. ? Without the early warning of the check control message, the current state of charge would drop below the start capability limit and the vehicle would not start. ? The vehicle's intelligent power management system actively takes measures to increase the charge of the battery, such as increasing idle speed and reducing or shutting down certain electrical consumers. |
| B240215 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN.
