Service bulletins for the 2017 BMW 320i
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

TICKING NOISE WHILE CORNERING WITHOUT THE BRAKES APPLIED: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 3) replaces SI B34 05 17 dated September 2017. Ticking noise coming from front wheel while cornering without brakes applied noticeable at low speeds. The vehicle must be moving. See attached video V34 01 20 Note: For a similar noise heard when parking with the brakes applied refer to SIB 31 01 12. Microscopic movement of the contact interface between the inner brake disc and the wheel bearing flange on vehicles equipped with lightweight brake discs. |
| B240216 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL). F30 PHEVs- Delayed Driving Readiness Status. Immediately after an engine start (start/stop button press), the gear selector is operated, but no drive position (D or R) can be engaged (transmission stays in P). The customer must operate the gear selector again to engage a desired drive position. Unfavorable software application Vehicle requires approximately 1 second after the start/stop button is pressed to establish a Drive Readiness status. If the gear selector is operated during this 1-second window, gear selection is not going to be executed and the gear shifter must be engaged again. |
| B240116 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL); POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM). "F15, F30 PHEVs- Gear Selector Plausibility Faults. The Check Control message ""Drive: Stop carefully"" (CCM-ID: 569) is displayed. The following fault codes may be stored in the transmission EGS control module (GKEG3HY3): 44D663 - Position plausibility: Driver's choice N/P from D/R not executed CF1701 - Gear selector switch interface, communication failure CF17A1 - Message missing: receiver EGS (A-CAN), transmitter selector switch (A-CAN) EGS software diagnostic function" |
| B330216 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. Howling Noise from the Rear Differential. When coasting from 85 - 70 mph, there is a howling noise from the rear differential. CAUSE Resonance behavior during the running-in phase of the PHEV rear differential |
| B112615 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN. SI B11 26 15 March 2016 Engine Technical Service This Service Information Bulletin supersedes SI B11 26 15 dated February 2016. The upper crankshaft guide bearing may wear out prematurely. The wear on the upper guide bearing can cause the clutch pedal to malfunction during shifting. The Engine Malfunction warning may be illuminated and a fault will be stored in the DME memory for the crankshaft sensor. Noise may be heard from the lower engine and transmission bell housing area. Engine damage can occur in rare occasions. |
| B123314 | 2018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 12 33 14 dated December 2015. SUBJECT Fault Code 1D2008 Stored in DME. The Service Engine Soon light is on. Fault Code 1D2008: Map thermostat: jammed open is stored in the DME. There may also be a complaint of low heat output with lower outside temperatures. CAUSE During the engine warm-up, the engine coolant does not reach operating temperature within the DME's allowable time limits. This is caused by either a faulty thermostat inside the transmission oil heat exchanger or a faulty engine characteristic map thermostat. |
