Service bulletins for the 2013 Audi A8
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

There is an unpleasant, musty odor coming from the heating and ventilation system. The odor usually occurs when the vehicle has been sitting unused for five hours or more. The odor usually occurs within 20 to 60 seconds after the vehicle is started. Condensation, which is a normal condition in all A/C systems, can cause a musty odor. |
| A911594 2036576- | 2017-10-25. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 14-28 dated March 6, 2014. Customer may report that the license plate attachment screws do not install properly. Damaged warranty parts have been returned to Audi of America with evidence of excessive torque used when installing the screw and/or excessive screw length. |
| A911588 2026390- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. When a phonebook with a large number of contacts is being downloaded, the MMI screen freezes Briefly after the initial Bluetooth connection (shortly after the phone is bonded to the vehicle), after the ignition is switched on (shortly after the phone automatically reconnects with the vehicle), and after the phonebook has downloaded. When the voice recognition system is used, a message appears in the MMI screen stating that the phone book is too large and that the voice recognition system cannot be used. When music is streamed to the MMI system with the Bluetooth A2DP connection, the music intermittently pauses or seems to skip. The condition goes away once the phonebook transfer is completed. The MMI uses a limited portion of the total memory to convert the name and phone number fields of downloaded contacts into a voice command (text to speech). Extensive processing takes place if too many letters are used in the first and last name fields or if numbers or special characters are entered. The remaining memory is dynamically assigned to different applications which can also affect the capacity of the voice command processing. The MMI does not respond until the process is completed or it may freeze if phonebook fields are too large or do not follow typical formatting. In addition, the text-to-speech capacity is exceeded and the voice recognition system is rendered inactive. |
| A911587 2040406- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM). When the vehicle is started, the GPS location or vehicle direction indicated on the MMI navigation map does not match the vehicle's actual location or direction of travel for a long period of time (often as long as 10 minutes). The issue occurs in open sky, with no large buildings obstructing the sky view. The issue is intermittent, but it can occur for long periods of time during a single day. The issue typically happens on very warm days when the HVAC system blower is at a medium to high setting (auto or manual), with air being directed out of the panel vents. When the issue occurs, the GPS navigation system satellite reception shows 0 satellites. Due to the infrequency of the issue, this might not be verifiable. No DTCs related to the GPS antenna or MMI system are present. If the sky view is blocked because the vehicle is in a parking structure, below ground, or next to large buildings, it is normal for the GPS location or vehicle direction indicated on the MMI navigation map to not match the vehicle's actual location or direction of travel. The blocked sky view prevents the vehicle from receiving satellites, and the system may be temporarily lost until four satellites can be received. This is a normal condition, and is not related to the condition described above. Replacing the MMI main unit will not change this behavior. A potential failure in the internal hardware of the MMI main unit can cause the GPS signal to be blocked, even if good reception is available. The failure can happen at start-up or while the vehicle is being driven. The issue typically starts when the vehicle is driven on curvy or circular roads, driven in circles (such as when driven around a parking lot), or driven on or off an expressway. |
| A911586 2039476- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 15-76 dated March 3, 2015. The customer complains that the Audi Connect Online service in their 2011-2013 A8, 2012-2013 Q7, or 2013 A4, A5, A5 cabriolet, or Q5 vehicle only reaches 2G service when some metropolitan areas. This bulletin applies only to model year 2011-2013 A8, 2012-2013 Q7, and 2013 A4, A5, A5 cabriolet, and Q5 vehicles. For 2012-2013 A6 and A7 vehicles, see TSB 2039515. Recently, T-Mobile (the service provider for Audi Connect) has repurposed some of the GSM spectrum (3G on 2100Mhz band) to maximize 4G LTE coverage in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Devices that do not support 3G service on the 1900MHZ band (including MMI main units of the vehicles to which this bulletin applies) will only receive 2G service when the switch is completed. The change currently only affects the markets listed above, but will affect other markets in coming years. This bulletin will be updated to include these markets as changes occur. |
| A911583 2030465- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. | A871563 2010146- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 87 number 14-54 dated August 28, 2014. If the odor is noticeable in the vehicle when the engine is not turned on, the cause may be mold and mildew in the passenger compartment, and not be related to the A/C system. All other possible sources of the odor must be investigated before this bulletin can be performed. |
| A551537 2031273- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TRUNK LID:LOCK; STRUCTURE:BODY:TRUNK LID; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 55 number 14-34 dated March 21, 2014. The movement-activated rear lid opening (also known as "Hands-free trunk release") is sporadically inoperative. This feature is installed on the A6/A7 from CW 22/2013 production and the A8 from CW 45/2011 production with Audi advanced key (PR No. 4I3). |

| A911580 2036575- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM). Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 14-27 dated March 4, 2014. The addresses and contacts stored in the Navigation >> Favorites, Navigation >> Directory, and Navigation >> Last destinations submenus disappear intermittently. Intermittently, the MMI system does not appear to remember that the user's myAudi PIN has already been entered, and it requires the user to enter the PIN again. The voice recognition system does not easily recognize commands spoken by the driver. This condition can be consistent or intermittent. Multiple voice recognition training sessions can be stored in the MMI for different users when different phones are Bluetooth-paired during each training session. If no phone is paired, the training session will be stored under a default profile. This profile will be used each time the voice recognition system is used without a phone being paired to the MMI. This TSB is informational only and not applicable to any Audi warranty. |
