Owner Notification Letter - Under certain circumstances, abnormal noise may be heard from the rear when driving straight or making small side-to-side turning movements with the steering wheel. Owner notification - Our records indicate that a Emissions Recall has not been completed on this vehicle. When the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction in one of the odd number transmission gears, it will set one of four diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Due to inappropriate calibration of the PCM, the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system cannot properly clear the transmission permanent DTC as required.

POSSIBLE CAUSES The clearance between the starter motor gear and the torque converter ring gear is not optimal. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the starter and rotate the torque converter clockwise one bolt hole.

Service bulletin - After the software update, some vehicles based on how they are driven (extreme conditions) may still experience ATF deterioration after updating the PGM-FI system and the shudder may return. The problem is typically diagnosed as a bad torque converter (TC). There is no damage to the TC, but because the ATF has deteriorated, it needs to be changed even though the ATF Service Due message has not appeared. Make sure the software is updated by referring to the INSPECTION PROCEDURE.

THE TRANSMISSION FLUID DETERIORATES QUICKER THAN EXPECTED WHEN IT IS EXPOSED TO INTERMITTENT HIGH HEAT LOADS UNDER SPECIFIC DRIVING CONDITIONS. A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE TO MAINTAIN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE WITHIN THE DESIRABLE RANGE UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL FOR THIS JUDDER."
