Service bulletin TSB 22-2185

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Some 2021-2022 Mustang vehicles built on or before 21-Apr-2022 and equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0300 and/or P0316 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to various strategies within the PCM software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.

A recall listed here may apply to some of the same vehicles. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle.

Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component
TSB 23-23502023-11-22. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang, 2019-2023 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a harsh/delayed engagement and/or harsh/delayed shift, an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM) or transmission control module (TCM), the transmission solenoid ID strategy, sticking valves in the main control valve body and/or axial movement of the CDF clutch cylinder (7H351) sleeve. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to identify and correct the condition.
SSM 512322023-01-05. Service bulletin. Some 2018-2022 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine and a 10R80 transmission may exhibit a buck/jerk sensation that may be perceived as an engine misfire during throttle tip-in between 35-45 MPH (56-72 KPH) and with the transmission in 8th, 9th, or 10th gear. This buck/jerk sensation can be compared to a like vehicle that is equipped with a similar powertrain (engine, transmission, and rear end gear ratio) and driven in the same manner. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will not set because of this condition. If a misfire DTC is present, the DTC should be diagnosed first following the correct diagnostic procedure outlined in the Workshop Manual, Section 303-07B.
TSB 22-22802022-07-18. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Mustang GT500 vehicles may experience erratic and harsh shifting at highway speeds and/or perceived lack of power when accelerating from a stop, with a powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P1601 and/or P061A stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) while using SelectShift. This may be due to the software in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.
TSB 21-23462021-11-02. Service bulletin. Some 2021 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 2.3L engine and a 6-speed manual transmission MT82 built on or before 24-Sep-2021 may exhibit an illuminated MIL and diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0300 and/or P0316 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to various strategies within the PCM software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.
TSB 21-23152021-10-05. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition/Navigator/Mustang and 2019-2021 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10R80 automatic transmission may exhibit a harsh engagement/harsh shift/delayed shift. It is possible the vehicle may also have an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) or diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0751, P0752, P0756, P0757, P0761, P0762, P0766, P0767, P0771, P0772, P2700, P2701, P2702, P2703, P2704, P2705, P2707, P2708, P0729, P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, P0735, P0736, P076F, P07D9, P07F6 and/or P07F7 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) or transmission control module (TCM). This may be due to incompatibility of the adaptive calibration to adapt to hardware wear-in over time. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to overhaul the main control valve body and/or perform an adaptive learning drive cycle.
SSM 498212021-06-01. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
